Hello all
I've just changed my car to a Honda CRV for the boot space for our lurcher boy Cal. I had a baby 2 months ago and we wanted a car that would enable us to keep them separate. Cal has always loved car journeys when he was allowed on the backseat, but after a couple of outings in the new car he's clearly not happy and is now refusing to get in the car. Basically he slips about more in the boot space than if he were on the backseat. Blankets seem to make things even worse. I just wondered what other people do to stop their dogs slipping about? We're going to Scotland for our 1st first family holiday with the baby in 3 weeks but really don't want Cal to be miserable all week! Any ideas? Thanks!

We've got a rubber spongy mat, about two inches thick on the floor of the van, it's non-slip and comfy enough for them to lie on for short journeys (we put beds in for longer trips). Ade's Dad got it for us from a car boot in Bilston nr Wolverhampton (not helpful) but it was a bloke who sells roll ends and upholstery sponge if you have anyone nearby who sells similar? It wasn't expensive though Emma x

I've seen those big rubber doormats at some dog shows, I've got one and it's really stable if the surface underneath is slippy... maybe Ebay?

I use the stuff you put under rugs on floors to stop them moving and find that they work well with some kind of rug/blanket over the top.

We use two double duvets folded in a cover in both cars. These are quite thick so their paws sort of sink into them when standing so they don't slip. I teach them all to lie down straightaway and try to drive smoothly so they don't get thrown around and unbalanced. This has worked fine for all our adoptees and fosters over the years.

I got a piece of memory foam (its part of a 'topper' that they put on matresses and most foam people sell ones cheap that have been ripped of matresses for a variety of reasons !) cut to fit size of boot and with an old duvet as a cover. memory foam sort of flops the shape of the boot floor so doesnt move then I've put a double duvet folded in half over that and a pillow wedged at the back where the seats go into the floor of boot . . . and that all seems to work - it may be that he feels more of the movement of the car and engine vibration in the boot which he probably didnt notice so much on the back seat and I should think that the memory foam absorbs quite a lot of that . . . basically he travels in more style than the human passengers who have to fit in where they can . . . ;D
