Since yesterday when Barkley poos he really crys. He isn't constipated and all looks normal. He has been eating fine until tonight when he left his dinner, but so did all the others so I think that is due to the heat.He is fine in himself. I looked online and impacted anal glands could be the problem. Has anyone else had this problem with their dog. I will be booking him an appointment with the vets but am dreading it if he has to have them emptied, Tia screeched like a banshee and tried to bite the vet. Also I'm wondering what he will be like in the waiting room. ???Poor lad I hate to see him in pain has any one any thoughts please.

Has Barkley got a pink rash in the groin area that you've noticed and does he nibble in the tail area? Just a thought because our girl Tracy had this and the vet had to empty her anal glands. She squealed but nothing major so not all dogs go bananas necessarily Previous to having this done, she didn't cry when pooing but did seem to strain slightly. Hope Barkley is back to normal soon. Advice given to my cousin some years ago when her retriever had trouble with anal glands was to add half a medium sized carrot grated to her food every day.Worth a try, and it shouldn't do him any harm even if it isn't his anal glands causing him problems Linda.

Thanks all Barkley doesn't have a rash or nibble his tail but Suggs does ;D ;D Jackie he love carrots and eats them like bones so will give him some more. Looks as if Tia and Flynn will have to go too as they both have sticky eyes. I have some ointment still in date from when Flynn had it before which is helping but it's nearly all gone.Oh and Dilly's on steroids for her salivary gland so he wants an update on her. ;D both Greys need dentals so I will get their glands done at the same time.Barkley didn't make a sound when he went this morning but unless he doesn't cry at all before now and Wednesday I will be taking him.

They often scrap their butt along the ground when anal glands are a problem. Our terrier Izzy has always had trouble with hers apparently (before she came to us) and it took a muzzle and three vets/nurses to hold her to have them emptied. Since we have given her a medium carrot daily to crunch up (seems to help clean her teeth too) and a measure of Protexin Profibre (off Ebay as cheaper than the vets) she has been fine for twelve months now.

He has scooted across the carpet a couple of times which makes me wonder. He's been three times today and not cried but that could change so will probably have to take him.I'm dreading it. He's had a carrot to crunch tonight he loves them. I tried with the others but they turned their pointy noses up. ;D ;D

If it's not anal glands .. I've been sure Lucy's got loads of worms cos she's been nibbling her bum lots so have been worming her and I've even had her blood tested ... not that I'm neurotic you understand LOL ... anyway I was looking at some Thornit I've got- it's an old powder remedy for manky ears but this new pot also said that itchy bums could be due to ear mites which are very very difficult (if not impossible) to see ...they transfer to under the dogs tail so just put your finger in some cream or vaseline and then into the Thornit powder and smear under the tail .. I tried it and voila .. Lucy's not itched since so that might have been it .. if your dogs got itchy feet it suggests you put some powder on the foot, put a bag over it and massage it thro ... Charlie's been nibbling a foot so I'll try that on him too Just be careful with the powder cos it can stain .. I think it's got sulphur in it so I do it outside J xx

Thanks again Julie, I did also wonder about worms but he was wormed just before we homed in so I would think the anal glands are more likely. No crying again today so going to see how he goes, I did wonder if they;ve actually emptied themselves somewhere. Def not in the house I'd know that smell anywhere. ;D He's eating a raw carrot every day. I love to here him crunching away on it , sounds so healthy. ;D ;D

Lovely topic LOL .. if he's scooting and it's not worms or anal glands maybe worth trying the Thornit ... that seems to have stopped Lucy frantically going at her bum J xx
