This evening I took Brooke for a quick walk and on the way home she stopped for a few seconds on some short grass then she dropped her tail between her legs and screamed while at the same time kicking out her back leg, I tried to look at her foot but she was terrified and threw herself on the ground, after a minute she stood up but still kept crying and kicking her back let out, I thought she had maybe been stung or stood on something. I managed to get her home but she did keep sitting down all the way home. In the house she still kept kicking her back leg out, I looked at her foot and she didn't like me touching the two middle toes so I wondered if she'd been bitten by an ant? She seems fine now and will let me touch her foot (can't see any swelling) but I wondered is it ok to give her Piriton if needed in the future?.

Thanks - I used to use it on my old dog when he was itchy but knowing how sensitive greyhounds are thought I'd better check - do you use the tablets or liquid?

Make sure you get the right active drug as there are now a few different variants in the Piriton range. The one you need is Chlorphenamine 4mg Mayo is about 26kg and can take up to 4 tablets a day, but we normally only give him one tablet, twice a day. Hope Brooke is feeling OK now Moira x

Thanks for that - will get some tomorrow. She is fine now and laid fast asleep - she did go out later for a long walk and was ok - maybe I'm just a very nervous mummy! It was just that I have no idea what caused the pain.
