Does it actually help wounds to heal. Jasper has a couple of open wounds and was wondering if it would help heal them faster. If so what strength

Yes it does, its also a natural antibiotic so will fight any infection, use the strongest you can find, the stronger the purer the honey.

Just to agree that Manuka honey is the best thing you can try to heal wounds. I've used it so many times with great success and in fact the last time I used it was on Mou-Mou's amputation wound which wasn't healing at all well after the surgery and the stitches kept ripping apart. We started to use the honey and within 4 days we could see a huge difference and now our vet even has some in his cabinet too! Good luck and I hope it works wonders for your boy too.

Hi allthehounds, I know this might sound silly. but do you apply the honey directly on the wound? As my grey had her leg amputated 2 weeks ago and the wound is still a bit sore.

Hi, some people apply the honey to a dressing or bandage and cover the honey up as it can get everywhere and be a bit messy but with our girl it would have been too difficult to cover the amputation wound so we just applied the honey straight on the wound. It works best on deep wounds like amputations rather than superficial injuries and only takes a matter of days before you'll start to see a difference. If want to apply it directly to the wound be very gentle as you apply it and if you leave it uncovered you might want to throw some old sheets around the house or wherever Mary lays down to protect everything from being covered in honey!! Also keep an eye out for her licking it off although it may be too awkward for her too reach her amp site? You need munaka honey with at least a UMF (unique manuka factor) of 18+ and we applied it twice a day. It really helps to keep the wound hydrated and at the same time it will heal and close up in no time. I wouldn't have thought it neccessarily has any pain relieving properties though so Mary will still need her conventional pain control and in fact our girl was on pain relief for at least 6 weeks after the amp. I hope Mary is doing well and that you're pleased with her progress so far. Good luck. Sian.

Thank you allthehounds for your quite reply. At the moment Mary will not stand on her remaining back leg. I have to slip a towel under her belly and somehow get her to walk .I think I most get a harness for her. David.
