The tip of Lucky's tail is bleeding and when she wags she sprays blood everywhere! Any advice? Just spent hours cleaning up the kitchen and my clothes are covered in it! Tried putting dressing on with micropore tape but was coming off or she was getting it off. Hopefully will be sorted out overnight now but she may wag her tail into the wall or cupboards or something tomorrow and start it off again.

Ahhh happy tail - a pain in the rear to heal. You need air to get to the tail but also somthing to protect it. Milothemonster is the one who has masses of experience of this! I'm sure she'll be along to offer advice at some point. An excellent protector is an old hair roller/curler but I doubt you've got one of those hanging about. Better wait for Milothemonster.

Sylvie's had that as well. I used a bit of pipe insulation foam (stuff youput on outside pipes to prevent them from freezing) around the tip of the tail and secured it with the vet's sticky elasticated bandage and it healed within a few days. Whatever you do don't use sticky tape, as you won't be able to get it off! Good luck. Caroline

Right I really need some help now. Whatever I put round it, bandages, elastoplast, whatever...she's ripping it off and my house now resembles a murder scene. She's actually eating the bandages and elastoplast. Everything is covered in blood, I am, my clothes are, the house is. There's got to be something I can do?!!

Even if you put rollers or pipe insulation on, how do you stop them ripping it off? Whatever I put on her she goes mental chasing her tail and ripping it off.

....or buster collar. It will take a long time to heal and do not let her get it wet when it looks like it has healed as that makes it easier to open up. Also look in the house to see how she did it in the first place. With Muppet we realised our hallway was too narrow and he would bash the radiator. One cover later, far fewer incidents.

Am I being stupid? But how does a muzzle normally stay on? I bought one and there's just one strap that looks like it goes over the head but that's not secure and all they have to do is bend their heads and they can get the strap over and off easily! I have threaded it through the collar to try and make it more secure.
Well I tried bandaging the tail and all that which was a right palaver as she would not stay still. Anyway, the bleeding was worse today and it just wouldn't stop, it was coming through all the dressings, bandages and elastoplast and everything. So I had to take her to an emergency vet. He said there was no cut, just a hole! He tried for ages to stop it bleeding but couldn't. Eventually he said it was on an artery. So he cut off the blood supply a little further up the tail, bandaged it up, gave me some antibiotics and told me to go to my own vets tomorrow morning. Now obviously cutting off the blood supply will lead to the tail dying in the next couple of days so that's not good and I'm worried, but what can I do if a vet can't stop the bleeding?!
