The above is very true , but in answer to Miggys question anything which is soft basically.
A couple of folded up duvets, on their own or in a hard bed, there are loads of soft sided beds on the market, just make sure it is big enough for your hound. Most people here have multiple beds in the house even if they haven't got multiple hounds , if you have the room for a 'dog sofa' that would be wonderful but anything which is comfortable and big enough for them to roach in will do.

I have double duvets folded up on the bedroom floor, another one in the living room - plus bean bag in living room.

I have a beanbag bed which Anna laid on once but now only uses to rub her face in She much prefers the sofa, my bed and the sheepskin rug but likes nesting in her folded duvet and fleece blankets

I have the following (for three dogs)....

Two Waterproof zippy dog beds one L and the other an XL. Both with extra fleece blankets.
One plastic bed filled with blankets and padded cushions.
Two foam cot bed mattresses with covers and single duvets folded in half on top.
One P@H dog bed with soft side and cushion.

For ease of cleaning I love the zippy beds and they have been well worth the money. However the best value goes to the cot bed mattresses on eBay for ten pound each!

Folded duvet the favourite in this house, and car, Barney likes moulding it with his paws and mouth and can entertain me for ages watching him, was the same with Rupert. when him solid, pad like beds he tore holes in them trying to mould them. ;-)

The finest Asda SmartPrice folded duvets with whatever duvet covers they were selling off cheap at the time shoved on top.
