We got the K9 apparel raincoats a few yrs ago when the exchange rate made them affordable and didn't get charged anything by customs but I suspect that was just random good luck. I've put them over any fleece/pj's we've got, didn't get the K9 ones. I love them, as good as new several years on and they're bone dry underneath. That's really interesting, Vickyanne, thank you, it's great to have some highly recommended options. Kate x

Hi Kate,
here are my thoughts on the Hurta raincoat.
The product is very well made as you would expect for Danish design (although made in China). It is generously cut around the bottom area which I like, and covers him well around his chest and tummy. The black net lining is polyester and the outer shell is polyamide. It does provide an excellent waterproof barrier, whist being lighter than the Jans greyhound stormjacket I have which although excellent too, is sometimes a bit hot for Clive as he is a greyhound of the slightly hairy variety. The clasp has a locking system and the neck has a drawstring. The neck area is the major problem because they are not cut for sighthounds and so you would need a waterproof snood or something to fill in. That would be extra expense and these coats are a bit pricey at about £60 for Clives size. I was lucky to get one at a bargain price because the colour was discontinued. I am very happy with it and was impressed with the way the heavy rain just rolled off it. Additionally if it does get a little damp it dries really quickly (away from direct heat). Sending you the pictures shortly I hope. Debbie

Thank you so much for the pictures and your review, Debbie, that's really helpful. And please give your lovely boy a big cuddle from me for being such a fab model ... I just love his dappled legs Debbie has given me permission to post the photos so here are a couple so that everyone else can see the coat... and gorgeous Clive, of course In the first one, Clive is modelling the cosy option, with a fleece underneath and in the second he's gone for the lightweight look. I've been having a look around Debbie and I think I've come across the site you bought Clive's coat from; it sounds like it does the job brilliantly and at that discount it looks a really good buy but at full price it could get a bit expensive, especially with needing snoods and, in our case, buttonholes. I think our current plan is to measure the hounds and see how much the ones from the US would be. Can't do that right now, obviously, because the dogs are having their post walk nap... or is it their pre-lunchtime snooze... it's hard to tell sometimes... ;D Thanks again for the help. Kate x

Bridge boy River in his K9 coat from the US The neck bit has a small slit underneath with closes with Velcro so you leave it looser or fold it down easily. You cal see the lead opening They have a black mesh lining. The water just goes into drops and rolls off. Gentle cool wash and it dries very quickly. Doesn't make them overheat. It's very soft fabric, not stiff at all like most raincoats. Still going strong, must be nearly 4 yrs old, it got passed on to Maddie when River left us.

Hi Kate,
glad you found the info and pictures helpful. It just occurred to me looking at Clive in his Chilly Dog fleece that you can get a product called Rain Slicker for greyhounds from them. Again not cheap - around 80 Canadian dollars plus postage(but I think postage may be the same if you buy more than one). I had a couple of products off them courtesy of my mum and dad! Clives birthday, xmas... The K9 one modelled by River look great too - certainly you would spot your dogs if they trotted off pretending to be deaf a la Clive! Thanks for posting those pics - strange how they look different when they are on the Gap site. I am planning to write to Hurta and send them a couple of photos to let them know they are missing a potential market- a bit more fabric on the neck area would get some sighthound owners interested I think.
Kind regards,
Debbie

Thanks for that, Debbie, I'll have a look at the Chilly Dog site. Good idea to give Hurta the heads up Thanks for the photos of the K9 coat too, Vickyanne, what a gorgeous boy River was It does look great and sounds like just what we need. Still haven't managed to synchronise tape measure, a free five minutes and hounds standing up but hopefully we'll get there sometime today. Of course, by the time we do get their measurements, order and receive the coats, it'll be wall to wall sunshine Kate x
