Really need a bit of advice about taking the dogs on holiday with us.I know that most of you do take them but do any of you take crates so you can leave them and go out on your own? Mark is worried that we wont fit it all in the pajero even though we have a roof crate on top, which in turn is worrying me.If he sees it in black and white it might help.I have already said that others take more than 2 dogs and manage. Please help

Whereabouts are you staying when you go? I know some places don't allow you to leave your pets home alone incase any damage is done, we're off to dumpledale and they are fine about you leaving them although the only time we've left any has been the oldies after they've had a short walk and want to sleep. We've took 6 on holiday before both with the caravan and also to dumpledale and other places. We've got a van though but also have 2 teenagers. We do have a trailer which we take but as the lads all go fishing we need lots of space for all their fishing tackle. When we go in the caravan its easier because all our clothes etc are put straight in there ready but its always loaded up with fishing tackle etc which we take out once we land.
I would have thought 2 dogs would be a doddle! ;D

We take our 4 wherever we go but don't use crates at home so don't need them. We're at Dumpledale for 3 wks in summer and I always get dog food sent there which saves masses of space (no local fish4dogs stockists) Carol and Trev are great and will keep an eye on the dogs if you want to go out and leave them but in other places we never leave them. Are travel crates any use? My priority is dog stuff first then Tonys surfing gear and whatever space is left is for our stuff ;D (and there's never much space left lol)

Hopefully Scotland in a cottage/caravan. Have looked at a few most have secure gardens. I thought 2 would be easy.As they are crated at home i wouldnt feel safe not crating them on holiday. We havent had a trailer for years as thought pajero would be big enough. We have looked a Dumpendale but it is booked solid. Dogs are fine in the truck but they like a lot of room.It will only be the crates and there walking gear we have to worry about as i believe in travelling light. Mark probably takes more clothes than me .We have also looked into buying a caravan and getting a tow bar fitted and a tanker full of diesel behind us

Have you tried ringing Carol armed with a list of poss dates? sometimes she has concellations, or she knows of a cottage in the village thats up for rent. Caravans aren't suitable for leaving them in really, they can suddenly get very hot bit like a car. We stayed in a static caravan in Cornwall for years and on a nice day it was so hot to go back to. That's if we do get a summer not a flood

Ask about the secure gardens, just to be safe! We once booked a cottage in Northumberland, it said enclosed garden, the wall was 3 ft high and the gate just rested against the gap in the wall! They had peacocks, so you can just imagine.......... You'll sort it out, but as the others have said, most cottages will not let you leave the dogs alone. Emma x

Have had several cancellations in the last few weeks, depending when you want to come. We also can lend you an extra large crate we bought for the puppies and never used but as everyone said we don't mind dogs being left in properties, as Trev says, there is nothing that can't be replaced!

The two recent cancellations were for May, the only weeks close to Sept is 25/8/11 in Dumpledale or 29/9/12 in Four Acres. The caravan is free 13/10/12. If it's a last minute booking we can do a big discount i'll keep you in mind tho and if anything comes free will let you know.
