Hello everyone im a Newby. We have had William since July but are still concerned about what food is right for him. We feed him dry greyhound food with extras added like tuna sardines in oil and sometimes chicken. He is 5 yrs old and only retired last year. he is a big lad at 37kg but not overweight as he is a big greyhound. Any advice would be appreciated.

You'll find everyone feeds their hounds different foods, it all depends what suits the individual dog. Mine have tinned butchers tripe for breakfast, for some reason they don't want dried food in a morning They have Burgess greyhound and lurcher for tea with added stuff like naturediet, wainwrights wet food (this is available in trays from pets at home) They only have a tray between all of them just to make it tasty, or sardines etc. If your dogs looks well and his stomach is happy then continue with what you are doing Oh and we always love pics of new hounds on here

Lovely picture!
We've tried normal complete dog food - fine but lots of poop. We went RAW - great no complaints but we one of ours has no immune system at the moment so we've had to stop RAW for his sake. I'm now homecooking for both dogs (as the poorly one didn't want dry food again even mixed with goodies like sardines or naturesdiet) and so far so good. Less poop than complete food and dogs very eager for their meals.
As Sue said... if your dog is happy and healthy then you're doing good.

Welcome, nice lad. I have try all different types of dog food and I always go back to the the same ones A/G or Burns. I have try cheaper ones but we all end up sitting with gas masks on and alot comes out the other end.
My lad is a big boy too coming in at 40kg plus. I like the natural way of feeding and the greys like it too.

I feed Song on Tescos Super Value complete dog Food, with Tescos tinned dog food in jelly added. I've tried Song on more expensive foods, but she either doesn't eat them, or is sick, or they upset her stomach too much (ie...very runny poos). I do sometimes give her sardines, pilchards or a raw egg. She dfoes get treats inbetween, but they are mainly ordinary dog biscuits.
I did query what I gave Song with my vet and she said Song looked good and was healthy, swo why change it.

Mine get a tin of Butchers and a little Harringtons kibble mixed in for breakfast and raw for tea. On Saturdays I cook offal for them (as they won't eat it raw) and on Sndays they have roast dinner! All have shiny coats, healthy, happy, good poos etc, so must be okay. Agree though, if your dog looks good on whatever you are feeding, then no need to change!

Finn and Sofi have either a tin of meat, Butcher's, the Co-ops own brand or Webbox chubb for breakfast. For tea they have dried food, Wagg, mixed with either pasta, rice, pilchards or during the week the sandwhiches that I am given at work which usually have tuna or cheese, plus any other food that is spare. Though it always dismays me at all the food that is wasted and thrown away, especially that excess food that the school canteen has prepared but not been chosen by many of the children. If it wasn't for the ruling that we cannot take it I'd be bringing slices of pizza, sausages, chicken etc home for my two.

I feed my three Sighthounds on Naturediet and leave two types of Kibble down if they want a munch. I only feed mine once a day in the evening. I get my Naturdiet in 12 boxes of 18 trays from Berriwood and by getting 12 boxes at a time they cost me £11.99 a box compared with £17.05 a box from Pets at Home, they are also deliveried free of charge within 2 to 3 days of ordering, they come in 3 large boxes that contain 4 boxes of 18 trays per these large boxes. You can mix the different types of nature diet. Menta my Ibizan Hound gets one tray a day whilst the two Greyhounds get 1 & 1/2 trays a day. They all have 2 & 1/3 Tesco Teeth Cleaner Treat each after their meal.

Many kennel hounds are not used to 'good quality' kibble and stuff and I find their systems don't seem to be able to take it so they tend to have upset stomachs. If your dog looks and seems healthy, is holding a steady weight and does not have a lot of sloppy poos, I would just leave well alone and keep doing what you already are. The more changes and different 'add-in's' you give, the more likely you are to upset his system and create a picky eater I think.
