....someone had the idea of gathering broken bits of old gold, even odd earings etc that are useless on their own but added together would be worth weighing in...we could get quite a lot!
Was anything ever done about it? I'd be happy to gather any in and sort it out etc. but would have no idea where to get best price for it tho!

Janice I work in the jewellery quarter in Birmingham and here the sale price hovers around the £9/£10 a gram so it's gone up again since it was mentioned a few months ago. I would be happy to help at this end (although have no gold left to sell ) Sarah

I have been thinking about this today as I have a few odd ear rings which would make nothing on their own but could be added to other stuff.
Could we all bring our stuff to the Gap show in May and then perhaps Sarah could take it and sell it?

And for anyone not going to the show, they could pm me for an address to send it and that could be put in 'in bulk' (wishful thinking!) What does anyone else think before I start a thread?

I think it's a brilliant idea. I've got a bracelet you can have and I'll see what else I can find. Can someone remind me nearer the time of the show please?

I'll check the current price when I go to work tomorrow, generally speaking the worse the economy the higher the price of gold....... should be through the roof by May then

Two years ago when we were getting married, we had lots of old bits and bobs of jewellery, old tie pins, old bent rings, two soveriegns I think - all in all it was a generous handfuls worth and got us £600 and that was back when the price was around £6.90/gram. We used exactly the same notes he gave us to buy our wedding rings with so it was family jewellery staying in the family so to speak. It's surprising how much it can add up to, the soveriegns did help rack up the weight though ;D
