Buddy has been with us for a few weeks now, and his kennel coat is coming out by the bucket load. He looks awful . He has black shiny bits, brown fluffy bits, and a few baldy bits! I go over him every day with the zoom groom, and give him oily fish a couple of times a week. Is there anything else I should be doing? Thanks..Helen x

If/when you bath him, use your zoom groom to massage the shampoo in in small circular motions, this will also help get out any dead coat and when rinsing off the shampoo to gently rub the zoom groom over him too.

Merlin was like that after we got him, and he is frightened of being groomed, so I just groomed with my fingers mainly. It came out in huge tufts He is now sleek and gorgeous, but I've noticed some fluffy coat coming back. Maybe he thinks winter is coming. ;D Hx

Sounds delightful furminators get it out but are expensive and if he turns out to be thin coated when it's all finished then they are a bit much. I've started to zoom groom when we're out as I got fed up of so much fur all over the garden and blowing in the house. Dorrie - interesting you say that, Gracie has grown some fluffy brownish bits (she's black) and I was only wondering the other day why having spent all winter with baldy bum and thighs the girls have plenty of fur there now its warm doesn't seem to make sense.

I use a furminator and my girl is fairly thin coated but used gently she is fine it is great when she is moulting. I got one of ebay and it was £6 and the real deal compared to £30 in the shops. They also make a leave in coat conditioner which helps with dry skin underneath and also helps to drag muck out while grooming i have found it to be great.
I found as my oldie got older she starting growing brown thick fluffy fur in some parts she was black as well.

Not surprising with our changing climate, if you look at the last three years by the time we've got to july we're into constant downpours, summers gone and it feels like winter

Don't worry Helen, he'll soon have a stunning black shiney coat ;D
I always remember one of my foster dogs (Emma) and I'm sure her mum won't mind me saying. She came to me in such a mess, needed all her teeth out, mammory strip, speying all in one op and aged 9. Her coat too was awful. She didnt stay with me long but not long after she had been adopted it was the gap show and her mum came along with her. I always remember her coming up to me and asking "What's wrong with her coat, it looks awful and its all falling out?" I remember looking down at her and through all the thick kennel coat was a beautiful shiney black coat underneath. I said not to worry and it would soon sort itself out. She was such a stunning girl when all her shiney black coat came out ;D Looking forward to seeing your boy when all his coat is out and he is a shiney boy ;D
