Hi folks
Wade the whippet who we adopted from Gap a couple of years ago is very poorly, possibly menigitis/encephalitis. He's been referred by my vet to a specialist place in Hertfordshire. The bad news is that neither I nor my wife can drive so we are kind of stuck. The appointment is at 10.45 on Tuesday 17th and we need to get from Kenilworth in Warwickshire to this place in Hertfordshire. If anybody has any suggestions then I would be extremely grateful - petrol/expenses paid obviously.
thanks
Paul

If this is the place I think it is .... Davies Specialists, it's Manor Farm Business Park on the Hertfordshire/Bedfordhire borders, near Hitchin and Milton Keynes? A brilliant place (I've been there with one of my hounds, sadly not a good outcome) with extremely highly qualified vets.

Hi folks
I really am humbled by people's generosity and offers of help. It really helps knowing that people are out there rooting for us.
An update: Wade is being treated with large doses of anti-biotics. He has a very low white blood cell count and this might be due to meningitis/encephalitis or a bleed on the brain...or anything really. We don't know hence the referall from local vet to this place in Hertfordshire (which is indeed Davies) for a consultation and MRI scan.
Jackie has very, very kindly offered to take us - which is fantastic and a real load off my mind. Of course until we've had the consultation we don't really know if they will let him come home or want to keep him there or what will happen after Tuesday. I guess we cross that bridge when we come to it.
As it goes I fancy that Wade has picked up a little bit this morning, looking a bit brighter. His main problem is that he has little control of his front legs which, when he does walk, are prone to give way under him (a little bit as if he were drunk!).
Thanks for all your good thoughts.
Paul

Hope Wade is soon on the mend.Jackie is a star she drove me with Molly (who had been her Foster Girl) to Newmarket for her specialist appointment.Sadly the outcome wasn't good for Molly, Jackie was a huge support and although upset herself managed to help me keep it together. Will have everything crossed for Wade.

Many, many thanks to Jackie and all at Gap for help and support.
Wade is doing very well now - not bad considering last Thursday we didn't think he'd make the night...gulp. He still has a low white blood cell count so another round of blood tests will be done in a couple of weeks. For now it seems that the antibiotics are doing their thing. I can't tell you how relieved we are.
Thanks everybody.
