Here I am asking for advice again, seems to be all I do on here!! Hopefully this might sound familiar to someone.
We took Blue out for a nice country walk this afternoon, as he's not been far the last week due to a split pad.
We've been back about 2 hours, and he started really licking, gnawing one of his legs. He seemed OK, but just really freaked out, really yelping, running in circles, not knowing to lick, gnaw or cry. He was really upset. It only lasted about a minute, and I just had to hold on to him to comfort him. He's on his bed asleep now. But it really scared me.
So has this happened to anyone before, does it sound like an external thing, like an allergy, or a sting, or maybe a arthritic thing from the walk?
He had just eaten his tea, same as always, but from a new bag. He had also been lying next to the fire, but nothing came out of it to hit him, or burn him.
Advice appreciated.
Thanks Michele

We had something similar with Gracie, couldn't see anything but after her next walk she came back with blood pouring from foot and it was a nail totally broken off, she'd obviously done it earlier when she'd cried out but it hadn't come off until the next walk, but it didn't hurt then just bled profusely so give all her nails inc dew claws a good check over. When we've been in woods Trix has been bitten by something but that's been in summer. Hope he's OK Vicky

Hi Vicky, he seems ok now, feeling a bit sorry for himself, but fine. I've had a good look, and the only thing I can find is one of his knuckles seems a bit bigger than the rest, so maybe he's knocked his foot. I'll keep a close eye on him next day or so and see how he is.
The split paw resulted in a vet trip Christmas eve as he was limping quite badly. He had antibiotics and pain killers!

Glad he's settled, they are a worry sometimes aren't they If only they could tell us what it is. We've been lucky with pad cuts in that they've not got infected, they are so nasty but do seem to heal quickly. River went through a stage of getting them almost every walk but think they toughened up with age, little Trix never got one despite obviously walking on the same grass. to you all and wishing you an uneventful New Year!

If mine do anything similar it is usually a contact allergy or nettle type sting, so I gently rinse their legs and give them a piriton. Hope Blue is better this morning.

I'll bear in mind the piriton if this happens again. He seems much better now, I've been keeping an eye on him. He seems a little stiff around the back end, and the toe is still a bit swollen, so I'm presuming he knocked it, and got cramp.
Thanks again for the advice all!
