Hello All:
Just got back from drinks out and have discovered that one of our Hounds, Charlie (and Bella) figured out how to open the fridge....and has eaten the following. In one go.
Organic chicken (raw) - the wings and legs + plastic wrap 2 Nann breads 2 salmon steaks ( and the plastic bag around them) 1 container of egg fried rice 1/2 banana
I have already called the vet and he wasn't too terrribly concerned. He said to watch him for distress over the next 24-48 hours or to make him throw up. Or, bring him into the vet's office and he would give Charlie an injection to make him sick. I told the vet I was comfortable making him throw up, but was concerned about the plastic. In particular the container that the egg fried rice comes in. It was the Tesco fried rice; comes in semi-ridged plastic tub...and I CAN'T FIND IT. I think he may have chewed it up and swallowed it.
I have since given him some soda crystals, and he vomited up a little bit of chicken and salmon...but no sign of the plastic tub, nor the bag the salmon was wrapped in. I tried giving him more, but he's not having any of it and locks his jaw. I tried coating some cheese in soda crystals but it does not give the gag reflex reaction to make him regurgitate.
So, it's a waiting game until his next bowel movement in the morning. Other then obvious distress, not wanting his breakfast and vomiting; is there anything else I should look out for? Or can anyone else tell me a worse story then this to make me laugh? I am really worried about all the packaging.
Thanks for any advice..... - Morgan

are you certain that it couldn't be hidden anywhere? Gracie once opened a lock and lock and ate 11 weetabix, I was on the point of freaking out as the lid was missing when I found it buried in the bottom of a basket. Sorry can't be more help, but wishing you all well, hope it comes out ok. Do let us know in the morning how it's going. Was it the black plastic type tray that goes in the oven/micro? Hope it was as they are softer than the ridgid box type. You'll be buying a child lock then norty dogs, poor you you'll be needing a Vicky

"Was it the black plastic type tray that goes in the oven/micro? Hope it was as they are softer than the ridgid box type.?"
It was the mircowavable type. Soft clear plastic, something you could crush in one hand. I have really looked around and can't find it anywhere. I am wondering if he chewed it up into bits trying to get into it for the rice. I mean, hell, the plastic bag around the fish was eaten as well as the fish! Alas no bag had been thrown up when the fish came back up.
We'll be checking on them both throughout the night, and if by morning/midday there isn't any action from the mouth or from the rear I guess we'll be off to the vets for a more in-depth look at things. Thanks for the support and kind words though.

Update
Morning now, both Charlie and Bella had two poops each; but Charlie's 2nd pretty much liquid. I'm concerned, but am currently chocking that up to the huge amount and variety of food he consumed. In particular the 2 naan bread which would give him the runs. ( and the raw chicken and salmon etc etc) Alas, no sign of the plastic trays or plastic bag.
They both have eaten breakfast, drank and are happily gnawing on shank bones. At this point no vomiting, so I am holding back on a trip to the vet just yet. If there are no foreign objects by tonight/morning I will definately be going to the vet.
Just giving an update....

Sorry don't be offended but didn't you get the camera out Hiya, Can't be offended, as I don't know what you mean by "get the camera out" (??!!) I am assuming you're making a joke or reference to something but I am in the dark. I want in on the joke! Or at least understand what you meant....

All bin/fridge raiding and sofa/cushion destroying ..... anything really naughty, is always caught on camera by us mad Gappers. The naughtier it is, the funnier it is for the rest of us I wouldn't worry at this juncture about your two naughty hounds .... plastic and similar will take about 2 - 3 days to work its way through the system.

Ahhhhh! I get it! Well, perhaps next time. I was too busy trying not to kill Charlie ( Bella usually doesn't indulge in this sort of thing, was hiding. ) with my bare hands at the time. Thanks for the words of encouragement. Shall I take a picture of the poop instead? *wicked grin* Greyhound people LOVE poop!

Unless there is diarrhea and vomiting everything should pass through although my sick sense of humor again imagines you in your dressing gown with rubber gloves on examining the said poo for bits

Well, he DOES have diarrhea, but no vomiting and he's happy to eat. Do you think this is fair enough? Or is diarrhea alone a worry? I figured with EVERYTHING that he ate loose bowels were a given...even outside of the possible intestinal blockage. He gets a titchy stomach very easily.
re: Sick sense of humour: Oh yes! Been there, done that. :^) Last time they ate something bad when we first got them, I was out there in the dark with rubber gloves and a flashlight crouching over a pile of loose dog stool picking through it. I joked with my husband; "Hey, check it out, I am on CSI!" .........Always have been interested in forensic science.....

When one of mine ate something they shouldn't the vet did say expect both ends to explode and much discomfort sounds to me that they have had too much rich food I'd give it a few days and if things don't improve then it's off to see Mr V.E.T.

The reason most folks take pictures is because it's too late to be cross with the dogs, unless you caught them in the act No point in telling them how cross you are after the event - they won't understand what they've done wrong!

You have all my sympathy, as we had a big panic here last week when my pointer x pointy stole a pack of uncooked brown rice and wolfed a fair bit down before I could catch her. Rang the vet, who asked me to work out how many gms of rice, then said that amount should not be too much for a dog that size but to see she had plenty of water, watch her carefully and bring her straight in if any discomfort. Norty girl managed OK with no problems, except for spending the next day running in and out of the garden. I collected 3 carrier bags of yukky pooey rice and don't think I will ever be able to face eating rice and curry again.
