Took Scoo his normal walk earlier - he did swim in a cold ditch that was well flooded and was a bit shivery when he got out i brought him home towelled him - gave him a cup of tea and brushed him He had a bit of a mad half hr - running round dodging etc but ate and seemed ok i went out for about 5 hrs and on return his aunty Pat noticed that when he was walking his tail was sort of hanging to the left no limping - no scratching - occasionally he will ,lick his bum but no more than normal - its just his tail isnt hanging in the middle but at a weird left loppy angle he can wag it and he seems ok in himself - i put some rescue cream on his bum - he pooed ok this morning so dont think he has a blockage this did happen once before when i first got him but he was restless and could nt get comfy - he was fine the next day but gave me a worrying sleepless night hes sleeping now - its just when he walks any one had this or simlar happen? advice and good tail thoughts wanted please ta sal n a funny tailed scoo xxx

Awww, poor little Scoo. Is there any chance that he has pulled the muscles at the root of his tail? Our Ellie had a droopy tail a couple of weeks ago and was unwilling to jump on the settees and the bed (highly unusual). The vet diagnosed a muscle strain at the base of her tail as on palpation it was very tender (we hadn't prodded around so couldn't find the source of the problem). She had an anti-inflammatory jab and was back on form within a couple of days. Hasn't Scoo's had friends over recently? Could he have knocked it whist playing and the cold water just aggravated it maybe? Lots of for little Scoo. Jo x

Someone I see out walking told me ages back that her dog had had what I think she called frozen tail. He's a short haired staffy/labby/terrior mix and had got filthy, so she hosed him off in winter with hosepipe (in her defence he is a tough little thing and she does think the world of him) later on she noticed same as you and as she is a nurse she immediately thought of nerve damage or a break. Rushed him to the vets who said its a not uncommon temporary paralysis thing caused by extreme cold and not to hose him off again in the cold. He recovered fine, no ill effects. However, this is just anecdotal so if you're still concerned please see vet. When I see her I'll ask her again but depends on her shifts. to Scoo and tail improving good wishes Vicky MTA- Just googled frozen tail in dogs and lots of articles on it, labs/retreivers/working dogs prone to it, seems rest and anti-inflams if not improving are the answer - along with keeping out of cold water Scoo ;D
