Ellie (little collie x whippet) had an operation in mid-October to remove a lump from her back. She had a patch of fur shaved off that's about 5 inches square.
We're now eight weeks later and she's got hardly any fur re-growth at all. There are a few straggly ones growing, but there's really nothing significant there at all . . . she's still baldy!
Her fur is of the ultra-thick, lustrous type and about an inch long, and I thought - I suppose naively - that it would fill-in very quickly. It hasn't.
Any idea how long this normally takes?

I was shocked at how slow Gracies short black fur regrew both after having a patch shaved when Rivers tooth accidentally met her shoulder on holiday and after her neck was shaved to give blood. Both Trixie, long fluffyginger fur and River, short haired cream lucher regrow very quickly. Gracie however looked as if it was never going to regrow then suddenly after 2 1/2 - 3 months it was there as if by magic! Very strange, so be patient is my advice. There did appear to be a few hairs growing after a couple of weeks but looked at one stage as if we'd have a partially bald dog forever but its all fine now Vicky x

Thanks Vicky ;D Looks like Little Nell is going to continue looking like a piggy-bank for a while to come, eh? Might get a faux fur square and make her a toupee! Jo x

Becks had an op on his bum to remove a lump. He's the fawn greyhound. I was shocked how much hair was shaved off, even around his tail and anus! That was in August. His hair has finally all grown back but whiter and more downy. I dont know if this has something to do with moulting out the summer coat?

I wondered about that - is it all down to seasonal hair growth?
Maybe it's beacause her winter coat had already arrived when she had the op, so we'll have to wait for spring . . .
