Has anyone got artificial grass - I'm looking with despair at my 'lawn'! Wondering if the pee soaks away and how easy it is to remove poo? I know it's not very environmentally friendly but I'm not sure what is left of my lawn is either!

yes, we've got it at the front. The back is paved and the dogs hate to wee on it, the front is separated by a gate so we let them on it on long leads to wee (low fencing) but it soon became a health hazard so Tony put fake grass down. I do find it smells very quickly especially in summer despite my best efforts with watering cans and disinfectant. The best thing I've found is to water it with biological wash powder, leave then rinse. I think the problem is that we have the type with sand in the bottom (on the advice of manufacturer) and with the weed suppression fabric underneath, which all makes perfect traps for wee to sit and stink. Poo isn't a problem, comes off easily and a bit of kitchen roll wipes off any residue, but they mainly poo on walks and haven't had any upset tummmies going on it. It does look as good as when it went down but I find it is slippery when wet. The non cutting is probably worth the frequent washing but I don't know what we'd do if there was a hosepipe ban. I know there are others on here with it in the back so hopefully they'll let you know what they think. It's quite expensive to have laid, so Tony did ours, it is hard work but vital that the ground is prepared correctly before laying. Someone I dog walk with mentioned that her son had bought a used load off ebay really cheap but had to travel to collect it and it is heavy but worth a thought. Vicky

Vicky Vicky, you would not have a problem if there was a hose pipe ban as it would be a health issue and you are allowed to use hoses even during bans if this is the case. We have always hosed down the back patio for the same reason and during the last hose pipe ban I worried about this but because it was considered a health issue we were able to continue using the hose.

Thanks Nettie, never would have thought of that, it's a relief to know ;D Vicky
