Vaccinate or not? I'm sure you have run this one before but .... I've always vaccinated my dogs but the kennels suggested that as my new boy Sam is nearly ten they wouldn't bother. I will check his insurance policy when it comes through to see if they require vaccination. I know it is my responsibility to weight up the pros and cons but what does everyone else do? Jane

I always vaccinate annually. Oldies also get annual jabs. Your insurance wouldnt cover you for anything that could have been prevented by vaccinating. I'm very suprised at a kennels saying that! Sue

Mine all are vaccinated annually with Duramune, apart from the ones that are really, really ancient (Matilda stopped at 12 and Hattie stopped at 13) and even they are done for lepto as a single jab. I've read all the arguments about three year protocol with Nobivac but still prefer to use Duramune annually, since it is developed from the most prevalent form of parvo in Europe, not an outdated strain like Nobivac. It's not a risk I am prepared to take

Alisa, where did you get the information from with regard which strains of parvo are used by manufacturers?

Thanks, you have all confirmed my thoughts ;D - I will vaccinate Sam - but not until he has had his teeth done and got over all that - he is desperate for a dental - and I have to sleep with his breath!
