Has anyone had any success with behaviour modification with regard to a lurchers rough play or is a muzzle the only answer?

Nope! Georgie and Tyler play like they're in it to the death and it frightens the life out of other dog-walkers! Fortunately it's more noise than anything and despite the baring of teeth I think we've only had two accidents in the last 5 years, and both of those were minor scratches, so I don't muzzle them. The only thing that seems to stop them is if I introduce a toy and then they focus on that rather than each other.

if they respond to pet Corrector spray it will stop them in their tracks but not sure how it would work long term and I am reluctant to use it on ours if there are other peoples dogs about unless I have their approval as it doesn't seem fair. would a water pistol help?

My experience is it depends who their playing with. Finn is horrible with other lurchers or basically anything he feels he can bully. If he feels the slightest bit intimidated he turns into a quivering wreck glued to my side who will squeal as the dog passes within 1foot of him. and he has been known to turn tail and run if on a narrow path so I'm always checking the enviroment and what type of dogs are about
