So the dreaded firework season is up on us and Seamus is such a scardy cat!!!! We tend to have them a lot from about now until the end of Feb and Im not looking forward to it! Which is the best product to use to relax my hound? Is it a DAP diffuser or Bach remedy type drops? Does anyone know of a sure fire way to stop Seamus having a 'hissy fit'!! Annette

Sadly there's no easy answer. Dap and bach can be used together. I've tried homeopathic stuff specially for dogs but it didn't do anything although I know some people who swear by it. I have had sedatives from the vet in the past but it knocked Trixie out for about 3 days even on 1 tiny dose and it goes on so long that they're not really practical. The vet advice is not to fuss them, it reinforces their fear that something is wrong, leave them to settle where they feel safe which is usually a corner or in my friends case it's as close to behind the toilet as he can get he likes her bathroom we think because it hasn't got a window. A covered crate might be a good place if you use one. Close the curtains early and get some noise on. Last pees and poos are a pain but a late afternoon walk helps if you can fit it in. If Trix is very bad we have been known to pop her in the car to go to the field, she then gets straight back in the car. Good luck, Vicky

Very good advice from Vicky above. We let our neighbours know the tele will be louder and on much later than usual.
I come home early and walk mine after the kids are out of school and just before it gets dark. Getting them out before bedtime though is impossible if it is very bad. I usually set the alarm for 2.30am when things have quietened down and take them out for a quick wee then.
Good luck.

I've plugged in the DAP diffuser last weekend and the rescue remedy is in the water. Cleo is the only real problem for me, but she is absolutely terrified. DAP and the RR make a huge difference to her - I know it doesn't help all dogs but it's such a help to Cleo I almost couldn't believe the difference.

I use the dap but it is best if it is plugged in about 6 weeks before the fireworks start Whoopie is now so bad I have to sedate her every evening for about 2 weeks perhaps you could talk to your vet
