Reading about the girl who had her nose bitten off has led me to this thought - I've had Nelly two months (ex-racer from kennels) she has learnt loads in this time - where to pee, not to make a nuisance of herself when I'm eating etc. etc. She sleeps on my bed with Bob and is perfect all night - you can do absolutely anything with her - and she loves a cuddle. However, in the morning she is very excited about getting up and shows her teeth - if her teeth touch you she doesn't hurt but I wouldn't want it to escalate. Saying 'no' firmly just seems to get her more excited. I'm hoping that she will eventually learn this is not great behaviour - she has learnt everything else so quickly, and she so wants to please - any ideas ?

Are you sure she's not just "smiling" ie when dogs just curl their lips up and grin?

It does sound like a smile, mine do it & chatter their teeth when they are pleased to see me or excited about something like going out. Ellie sometimes air snaps too like a crocodile or nibbles me, I can't say I worry about it.

Gracie does it too when she's happy, quite often greets you in the morning with her toofy grin. It did alarm me a bit at first until we realised its just joy. She pulls her lips back into a sort of square shape. Sweet. ;D The other 2 do a more obvious and less alarming grin. She air snaps too, I call her my snapping turtle and sometimes its accompanied by snorts and snuffles of excitement. Vicky

Yes, your little girlie's definitely smiling I think.
Our Barney does it when he's happy or excited and he also does it at the end of very large yawns, which is especially hilarious as the tip of his nose goes over to the left at the same time so his whole muzzle is contorted. And he holds the pose for ages.
Aren't they fab? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
