Hello Everyone.
I am new to Greyhound Gap forums, actually forums in general.
I adopted a Greyhound a month ago and he has been having problems with diarrhea. I have him on Natures Recipe Lamb and Rice. The vet didn't seemed too concerned. I talked to someone at our local PetCo and they suggested Fresh Digest. Has anyone had any experience with it? I was also told to give him rice along with his kibble.
Advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Michele

I haven't heard of Fresh Digest, if you want firmer poo's you could try Burgess Supadog Sensitive that does the trick for my lot. If the vet has seen him I'm assuming that rules out stomach bugs, it may be nerves and/or the change of diet. Sometimes it takes a while for them to adjust to a new diet, do you know what he was fed on before you adopted him?

This is a really common problem, especially at first as they're fed total cheapo cr*p while they're working, then being changed to something completely different is a huge culture shock too.
You may find that you'll have to indulge in quite a bit of trial and error before you strike upon the perfect food for your hound, and the good folks on here will offer you all the advice you could wish for as to what works best for theirs if you wish (ours have James Wellbeloved Turkey and Rice Kibble). In the meantime, though, what might really help is sprinkling a handful of raw porridge oats in each meal (just make sure that they're 100% oats with no salt or other nasties added). They are super-absorbent once in the large intestine, so should help to absorb some of the excess fluid that's contributing towards the diarrhoea.
Good luck!

It took a few months for our dogs stomach to settle down, and he is now fed on james wellbeloved turkey and rice. I f I add anything ie cooked chicken, sardines in tomatoe sauce etc it can have an adverse affect on his bowels and make him windy.
