Our council is going to start collecting the rubbish every two weeks soon. I have three dogs with the corresponding amount of poo! I clear it up with poo bags and put in a bin at the bottom of the garden. Even though the bags are tied up and in a bin bag (and I use Jeyes bin powder) it still smells by the end of the week in summer. What is it going to be like by the end of two weeks? I dread to think. I have thought of one of those dog loo things that compost - but they must smell surely? Any thoughts?

Had one some years back for two GSD's but found it pretty useless....didn't decompose/disappear fast enough. Maybe they are better these days though.

I have a similar problem as our collection is every 2 weeks too,so,I get the large wheely bin bags and, then all the collected poo is double bagged too. I have 4 dogs and am coping better than i thought I would ,plus with having the wheely liner in, at least the bin dosnt have to be cleaned after collection. What makes me laugh a little is that we are supposed to be doing all this to help the enviroment, but because the collection is every 2 weeks i am using far more plastic bags etc than i ever did before ,so,its not really working,is it ?

We have 6 dogs here and our bin is also collected every 2 weeks. I just hold my breath when I open the bin Have you got a dogbin local to you? We have several on our local field so I sometimes bag it all up in poo bags then in a carrier bag and take it round to one of those. Sue

I have one of those chemical dog loo's in my garden. They're ok as long as you make sure you flush through with water regularly and top up with chemical that breaks down waste matter. They don't smell at all surprisingly ! - mine came from Argos, i think it was £ 15. I also have only one dog ! - instructions say to flush every 3 weeks and top up one a week with chemicals. For three dogs it says to flush once a week and top up. It just liquifies and drains away into soil - much more hygienic than putting it in bags in bin !

I couldn't stand the smell of the bin this summer now we've gone to 2 weekly collections so I bought a small kitchen type bin and put a liner in that and put the dog bags in there and after a few days I double bag the whole lot and take it to our local dog bin. Then on bin day whatevers left goes in the wheelie bin. I've found it much better this way, can bear to open the wheelie bin lid now! Couldn't have a chemical one as we are all paved. Vicky

Thanks for your helpful comments - don't think a dog loo thing in the garden would work - I have noticed that when the dogs dig holes they only get a foot or so down before they hit bits of rubble and concrete! I'll just have to use more bags and remember not to open the bin at the bottom of the garden when the neighbours are having a bar-b-q on a summer evening! Good idea about taking it to local bins though - wonder if everyone hereabout will be doing it - that'll be nice!

I'm a collector & taker to the local dogbin. They mostly go on their walks but generally there are a few deposits each day so I offlaod a carrier bag in the bin at the park the next morning.
