Harness?

As Paco has become more used to us, and living a non-racing life, he has become a lot more interested in everything when we are walking - particularly squirells. He has started to really lunge at them and although I can control him, he is rather heavy - 33kg. I don't want to hurt his neck trying to restrain him so would you advice a harness? If so, which is the best?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Harnesses are useful but bear in mind that with a harness you will have less control over his head, so if he is lunging you need to either make sure that you are leaving a greater distance between him & the object of desire or use a double ended training lead to attach one end to his collar & the other to the harness.

I've bought two of these harnesses recently and they are really good, it seems to calm the dogs and they pull less - although I agree you have to be careful if they do lunge at something. Also, so far, they don't rub like others I have tried. I would be interested to know where you get a double-ended lead from though...

You can get them from most pet shops, they are also good because you can adjust them to different lengths so if you are in safe area & want to give a bit more freedom you can let it out.

I have 2 dogs that go off lead & 1 that doesn't so I tend to let the girls off lead & use their training leads to make a long line for Dan who can't be trusted not to disappear off over the horizon ;D
