Do you have coats for your dogs?
Dylan is now pretty much fully grown and although I did get a coat for him last Winter when he was a puppy, i'm really not sure whether to get one for him now he is an adult. My smoothies all have coats and in particular fleece jumpers for the coldest days, but Dyl has not shown much need. I was possibly thinking of a fleece for the end of a walk when he cools down and may drop cold after all his running around...?
What do other folks do?

Rio doesn't need a coat, her own coat was quite thin until she was spayed then she developed a thick undercoat. Bertie doesn't have an undercoat so he does wear a coat when its very cold but more often than not I have found myself carrying it after he's been in the water and its sopping wet, so often don't bother.

As Mayo doesn't have an undercoat he wears a waterproof coat if it's wet and has a fleece coat for the frosty weather. As you already have coats for the others could you try him with one and see what he thinks? Moira x

Vicky I'd get him a fleece one for the end of walks, I think that's what I'm going to use with Bertie this winter, I don't want to be carrying sopping wet coats again.

I think so, as it's the only time i've ever seen him show any sign of being cold. When he's offlead, he & Missy go through every patch of sludge and puddle, so a coat for during would be wasted anyway. It's bad enough having to wring Missys Equafleece jumper out as it is! Moira, Nettie; Thanks to you both for the help.

Otis wears a coat in winter, but his hypothyroidism means that he has no internal thermostat He is too hot in summer and too cold in winter, and hypo-T leads to loss of undercoat too Otis is the only one of my lot who starts off with a coat on, and comes home with a coat off (Theo and Matilda are coated and remain so, Theo has too much whinging whippet and sulky saluki in his pedigree not to be coated and Matilda is too arthritic) I'm not sure which way Min is going (if I put a coat on him he walks like Spotty the Dog from The Wooden Tops, and won't run!) Sorry Vicky, not sure that helps, does it?!

hi there yes Eric has a coat (one from Jans greyhound gifts- the blizzard but I'm even more impressed with the one i've just bought for my whinging whippet and sulky saluki mix (Tinker) its from Outhwaites- www.petrange.co.uk/greyhound-whippet-coat,-green and although it cost a fair bit it is brilliant no more shivery salukiness.

Neither of mine where them unless it is hammering down with rain and we have to go for a walk (if I'm working for example) or unless we are going to be standing around somewhere. Tyler just runs everywhere so gets warm that way and Georgie has a thick enough coat and gets too hot with one on.

My hairy gang only have a coat on if it's absolutely tipping it down - smoothies and oldies do wear one when it's cold.

All contributions gratefully received. and although it cost a fair bit it is brilliant no more shivery salukiness. I have my fair share of shivery Salukiness with my 2 girlies being totally nesh. I shall definitely go with the consensus and get him a coat for post-walk and standing around in the cold/wet. He'll just have to get used to it! Thanks again to all. ;D

In winter Gypsy won't step foot outside the door unless she has a coat on ;D but I don't think Jimmer will need one
