after talking to my butchers today it seems that the thing they have a lot of that they dont sell is heart. just wondered if you have to limit this organ to ,say, once a week like liver- or can it be fed more frequently? and indeed do dogs seem to like it?

Mine like lambs heart and I would have thought since it is in effect a muscle, you can probably feed it more often than offal, but since I don't feed a BARF diet, that's a guess!

Barney and Foxy luvs 'em, bowl empty in seconds. They get them about once a week but as I feed raw and sometimes forget to get this out of freezer I know I can get it from work without any difficulty so have had it more frequently to no ill effect.

Zeb loves his awful. (my daughter thought i said awful and of offal) Liver, kidneys, heart, tripe. Any kind of meat really.
I feed the awful once a week. But correct me if I'm wrong. (and i could be) I think you can give it more often.

Heart is an excellent muscle meat and can be fed more frequently than offal.

Do you always feed it raw? I don't feed a barf diet so is it ok to feed raw heart or should it be cooked and added to the dry food? Also is it rich as my lurcher River isn't good with red meat, has fish or chicken only and I wouldn't want to risk upsetting his delicate tummy, Thanks, Vicky

just thought i would update this/conclude by saying that mine love it. what i wasnt prepared for though is how much the cats love it too! (and i believe after looking it up that it is a good source of taurine) they have all had it raw and thoroughly enjoyed it and appear to digest it well.

hi, i have a 5 year old greyhound girlie called ellie who loves offal, i spoke to my vet as i wasn't sure how much she should have, he said it was ok for her to have it 2 or 3 times a week but not a lot of it, he advised just a handful each time. hope this helps
