Hi! New to the forum. I was wondering exactly how the charity works? Is it the case that if I see a dog on another rescues website that I like the look of, the charity would act as the go-between, ie, transport the dog, arrange for a home-check, etc. Would I have to physically view that dog? For example, Scotland could be a problem as I live on the South coast. I have looked through at the website for an answer, but am unable to find one. Hope this makes sense. Apologies, if this question has already been answered.

Greyhound Gap is a rescue, we rehome hounds, we have fantastic volunteers who homecheck, help with transport and fund raise for us. If you were to see a hound on another rescue's website then you would have to contact that rescue and they would arrange a homecheck etc. Different rescues have different rehoming criteria.

Thx for the quick responce! Perhaps it's glaringly obvious, but I'm having trouble understanding? On the home page of the website it says, "There are many rescues the length and breadth of the country looking for homes. There are also many potential adopters looking for the right dog to join their family. There is a "gap" between these two parties in terms of distance, the need for homechecking, transporting the dog... This is where Greyhound Gap comes in. The whole aim of this site is to fill that gap by assisting rescues and new potential adopters in their quest to find the perfect home for the perfect dog..." Maybe if I'm more specific, it might help? I've looked at rescues closer to home, but the dogs appear to be unsuitable. I've seen a couple of dogs on the Greyhound Rescue West of England website that I'd be interested in viewing. As far as I know they're based in Devon/Cornwall. I live in Hampshire, a fair distance. Am I right in saying this is where Greyhound Gap could be of help? If so, to what extent? btw, I'm looking to get a whippet/greyhound/lurcher Thx in advance

We do work closely with other rescues and do help out where we can but in the first place you will need to phone the rescue rehoming the hound you are interested in and talk to them. They may well have a volunteer in your area who they would send to homecheck you, if they don't have someone then perhaps we would be able to help. Taken from GRWE website: Our main areas of operation are Hertfordshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Shropshire, Cheshire, Lancashire, Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall, and with representation as far east as Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Hampshire. www.grwe.com/Hope that helps.

I think the confusion lies in the wording ..... as I understand it, what is meant is that "There are many rescues (ie rescue hounds) the length and breadth of the ....

Nope it means rescues as of course many a time when a rescue cant find a homevisiter Gap will offer assistance by asking one of our volunteers if they would mind like in the homevisits wanted section or other rescues may ring to know if we have a homevisiter in a certain area. Still the rehoming is at the discretion of whatever center the dog belongs to not GG itself and we only offer assistance with finding someone to help.

As far as I know they're based in Devon/Cornwall. I live in Hampshire, a fair distance. I have a hound from GRWE and I live in Surrey. I took my dogs to meet him at their kennels in Gloucester on the Thursday and brought him home on the Sunday. They use various kennels and foster homes for their dogs around the country, so you would do best to contact them directly.
