we are going for gold (again :(0 ) in October. date to come soon.
i know that he can do everything on the paperwork. The one thing that he cant do in the training ground is the OOS. (out of sight) He can do the OOS in the park in my garden, in the house, in my mil's garden, in my friends back garden, and in the open space of the car park at the training ground. The only place he cant do it is in the training ground itself. When in there we do 1 1/2 minutes stay with 30 seconds of search and rescue. (and I'm not joking, he does come and find me every time)
Has any one who has taken this award, had any problems with the OOS. Or is this just a Zeb thing.
Any advice would be great.

It sounds as though he already knows the exercise, but perhaps isn't comfortable in that location. Is this the only time you do it with other dogs around, or is there anything else there that might worry him?
Dogs often don't generalise very well, so doing something in a different location can sometimes be like starting again and having to go back to basics, which can be very frustrating! Two things you could try:
If he stays down after you go out of sight for a short time, even if it's just a few seconds, try leaving him and coming back immediately a few times and rewarding him if he's still in the down, then build up the time you are out of sight very gradually.
If he gets up immediately have someone else stay with him and put him straight back in the down as soon as he gets up so he get used to the idea that he has to stay put even when you aren't there. Still keep the time you are away very short and build it up gradually.
Good luck with the Gold!

Thanks, it is the only place he does it with other dogs around, so i do think that this is the problem as a friends lurcher is starting to do it as well as Zeb. As soon as you go out of sight then he gets up. I have asked trainers to put him start back in a down but he refuses to go down, his legs go stiff and will not bend.

Dogs feel very vulnerable in the 'down' so it sounds as though he's just not confident enough to stay in that position with other dogs around if he can't see you.
If it was me I'd give the exercise a miss for the time being - do a down stay but keep in sight until he feels a bit more comfortable with the situation.
You have a while yet before October, but if he's not ready there will be another chance - better to wait than to push him too far outside his comfort zone or you may find he'll go off the whole thing and start refusing the other exercises as well.

the big thing is that we have been doing gold now for nearly 2 years. If it wasn't for the oos then we would of got the gold last year.
