I have just been giving Grace a cuddle then she went over to Andy for one and tends to rest her head on your lap. While he was stroking her he has just found a lump approximatley 2 1/2 to 3cm diameter like a large soft marble at the top/inside of her left front leg I can't believe we have missed this It isn't obvious from looking but it is definatley obvious when you feel it. It does feel like you can move it i.e not attached to anything. Does anyone have any ideas of what it can be. I just feel like crying as i can't believe after everything that there is now something wrong with my Gracie. We will ring Mr Baxter first thing and take her down. Please keep your fingers crossed that is nothing sinister as i just couldn't bear it.

Don't panic, it could just be a fatty lump. River has one just where his back leg joins his body. It came up very quickly and is marble sized. Mr vet put a needle in it and looked at what came out under the microscope and said def just a fatty lump and nothing to worry about at all. Trixie has one under her tummy too it's soft and not attached, we just keep an eye them to be alert to changes but doing ok so far. The delights of ageing hounds! Fingers X its the same

I'm just extra worried as Grace is only two, or that is her estimated age. She is the black and white girlie i found scavenging near a main road in Bradford back in January.
She has done so well over the past 5 months and even won 'dog in best condition' at a local RSPCA show which just shows how far she has come.
I have a feeling she might be sleeping in our bed later ;D

Well this morning i rang Mr Baxter first thing and although its operating day he could see me at 10.30. Grace slept in our bed last night :blushing: and was still in bed after i got up. Andy called me in to say the lump had gone :dunno: I had a feel and it was definatley smaller, not round anymore but flat and half the size it had been last night.
We took them out for a walk so see if it was something muscular and felt it when we have got in. You can just feel it, but it has certainly shrunk. I have just rung the vets back to explain and said i will just keep my eye on it. I can't believe it has shrunk so much overnight so now i am even more confused as to what it is/was

Sounds as though it was probably a lymph node ("gland") like when we have a sore throat and our neck nodes become inflammed, or maybe an insect bite. Worth checking there's no wound on the foot of the leg it's above.
My two year old, Wilf, had an odd lump of a similar size recently on his thigh and I and his vet were worried it might be something nasty, but decided to watch it for a week or two becasue he's been very poorly recently so not wanting to put him through anything unnecesary - and he was mostly an inpatient at the vet's at the time so they'd have noticed straight away if it changed- it stayed the same size for two weeks (i took a photo with a rulr to make sure) and then suddenly started shrinking, no idea what it was, but it's nearly gone now thank goodness.

Glad to hear its shrinking, swollen lymph gland sounds most likely. Stop poking it though, you might make it swell up again with all the prodding!
