As Bandit is turning into an expensive hobby ;D I wondered if I could save a few pennies by buying his worming and deflea stuff myself. What does everyone else use, how often and where do you get it? Is it appreciably cheaper than going to the vets (this is what I've always done previously). Is there anything that other breeds use but are complete no nos for our thin skinned greys? Finally, why don't we deworm and deflea or worm and flea (just one of those random thoughts ) Sou

I use frontline when fleas are likely to be a problem and usually have a break over winter. It says it lasts 2 mths for fleas, one for ticks. However I know a lot of people who add a garlic capsule daily to their dogs food and it's supposed to repel fleas, much cheaper. For worms I use drontal every 3 months. As Nettie says vetuk is the cheapest I can find and way cheaper than P@H or my vets. I've been happy with every order from them and delivery is fast.

Could I just add a word of caution about buying the 'over the counter' worming a flea treatments from high street pet shops. They are usually not as effective as those available from vets, and I have heard of one or two instances when they have caused problems.
Frontline is available from a number of online sources, and at reasonable cost, although I think I am correct in saying that the Frontline Combo is only available on prescription and you will probably have to pay a fee for the prescription from your vet. Just remember to check that you are giving your hound the correct strength for his size and weight, and you should be okay.

Jackie x Timely reminder, someone I meet on dog walks used a pet shop spot on type flea treatment and her poor dog had an awful reaction and it cost her a fortune in vets bills and her dog had a hairless back for weeks so trying to save money backfired big time so she's gone back to frontline.
