For the last couple of weeks Tolly has been leaving his breakfast.
He is on Wagg Chicken and Rice (sorry Jackie, but there was too much poo with the other!) which he has just with water in the morning and mixed with something like fish, or other bits and pieces in the evening sometimes (but not always). He is fine on this and has eaten well for months. He still seems perfectly healthy, and eats all his tea, just leaves breakfast more often than not (and I stick to the 'leave it down for 20 mins then it is thrown out' rule so he's not getting the idea that he can snack whenever he wants).
His weight seems fine too. Should we just stop giving him breakfast, or feed him more in the eveings if he hasn't had breakfast (although that might make him not hungry the next morning ...)?
Any advice gratefully received!
Alice

I wouldn't worry too much about it Alice, ours tend to have periods when they seem to lose interest in food, and more so in the morning. If you think he needs the two feeds then maybe adding a small amount of something to the dry food would encourage him, but frankly if he's hungry he should eat it.
There's absolutely no need to apologise by the way, whatever suits him best is obviously the way to go, and if he likes Wagg then I don't see anything wrong in that.

Try offering it to him a couple of hours later and over the next couple of days cut down the amount you give him in an evening just slightly. This may encourage him to eat. I dont particularly like them missing meals regularly as it causes them to throw up acid.

Molly has phases of this sometimes, Jackie said she was the same when she fostered her.I can usually encourage her to eat a small amount, however I think part of her reason is she wants the cats breakfast, they eat outside or in the lobby. Also she seems reluctant to eat until Suggs is at least half way through his (they have a bowl each on a shared stand) she will then eat a small amount , step back and wait for him to finish then continue.I'm not sure what thats about but am considering feeding them seperately. They never fight or argue over food but its almost as if she's defering to him , I'm puzzled rather than worried. She seems very healthy and happy so I assume she's eating enough and she eats well in the evening although she does exactly the same but tends to finish her meal.

Many thanks for all advice - very helpful. Tolly has been quite off colour this afternoon, and then was sick twice (once to christen the new stair carpet ) so maybe he has just been a little unwell. He managed chicken and rice tonight though We will keep an eye on him as he has been eating grass to be sick a few times over the last couple of weeks. Alice
