Over the past few days a small cyst - about half a centimetre in diameter - has appeared just on the inside of Archie's left ear. It's bright red and soft - possibly filled with fluid.
He's booked into the vets on Friday anyway, to be castrated (eek!), so should we wait until then to get it looked at or does it sound more urgent than that? I noticed him rubbing the ear once or twice last week, but he certainly doesn't seem to be in any discomfort now.

It is probably nothing to worry about. If it gets worse or he seems more distressed I would take him to the vets earlier. If not I would wait and mention it to the vet when he goes in to have his bits off . Mary X

Thanks Mary! It isn't any worse this morning, and doesn't seem to be bothering him at all, so I'll wait until Friday. Poor chap doesn't know what's about to hit him - and that's probably a good thing!

Hi, sounds a bit like one River had on his neck, had it removed and sent for analysis (ins paid). Turned out to be an aggressive cancer. Fortunately it had not spread and mr vet had managed to get it all out so all turned out ok but it has made me very vigilant over lumps and bumps ever since. Couldn't believe it when the lab said what it was although I had a gut feeling it was nasty ever though it was small, but very red and had what looked like a jagged red thread vein across it. Do make sure they check it on fri, all the best, vicky

Good news! The cyst was completely benign. The vet did tell me what it was, but I've forgotten - but who cares? It's nothing to worry about!
