Despite playing on slabs as well as grass and having part of her walks on paths every day, (Molly doesn't do wet grass or grass with any weeds or prickley bits) Mollys nails are getting rather long.I decided with some trepidation to clip them tonight. Trepidation because despite the fact I used to clip our collies nails so its not a first (the vet did Suggs when he went to donate blood as his dew claws grow at a funny angle) Molly is such a drama queen. To test the ground I played with her feet , touched her nails etc.no problems, got out the clippers and just placed it round the first nail ,no problem ,this is going to be a doddle I thought, as soon as I squuzed the clippers she screamed the house down , shot up, she was lying on the sofa and gave me a horrified look, I jumped out of my skin and dropped the clippers. Result no nails cut and I doubt I'll get any where near her feet with them again.Any advice please I'm sure I didn't hurt her this is her reaction to all sorts of things sitting to close and accidentally brushing against her, flipping her lead across her if its on the wrong side etc etc for one so gobby she's a real baby ;)Her vacs are due soon I bet she'll scream the place down LOL

My advice is get the vet to do them when she has her vaccination. I loathe cutting nails and Indy's are so thick that I use a Dremel tool to file them down, takes ages and involves a treat or two for each nail. My OH does Rio's and Bertie's, I hold them but we also get the vet to do them if they are there for other things, or occasionally I get the groomers at P@H to do them, well worth the money!

If Molly's reaction is that bad i'd go with getting it done at the vets, that way your not the bady. Make sure Mr vet givesher plentyof treats too so she dosen't build up a negative assocation with them, but is not unusal for a grey to scream the house down though, people think my girl Penny is being murdered when werein the vets room and she comes wondering out all sweetness and light

Its strange because Suggs has to be one of the most spooky greyhounds ever but never makes a fuss when giving blood, having injections or if he bumps or cuts himself.I thought all Greys would be the same yet Molly who is so confident and somewhat gobby is the complete opposite which was a real surprise to me.

I decided to clip the dogs nails the other day. I bathed them to make the nails softer and then agther the pair of them in the garden as it was bright and sunny. So they hada good grooming session to relax first and then the clippers. Muppet let me do one foot and his dew claws before trying to take my face off!! Tallulah who has a real phobia of her feet being touched had to quite literally be restrained by me (as OH refused to put her through such trauma ). She let me do one or two of her nails but her quicks are so long that even a slither draws blood. Its so frustrating! Bless her heart, I can see why she has such a fear of her feet being touched. I conceaded defeat and popped her to the vets. She hates the vets and shakes and pants the whole time, hence why I have my own clippers so we can avoid the traumatic event of the vets in the first place. Ten out of ten for my vet, he got her treats (which she refused) and sat on the floor with her trying to gain her trust. She basically gave him a look that said eff off and backed into a corner. After me straddling her and holding her still we managed to get round her nails. She ignored me the rest of the night then. ;D
