Okay, I know that we all get protective of our dogs but has anyone had any experience of this?
Royal has developed a lump towards the bottom of her neck over the past few days. Had her at the vet today and they took a lot of fluid out of it and have sent it for testing, will hear later in week if anything amiss.
I know vets try to put our minds at rest but has anyone else had anything like this, after losing one dog to cancer we are paranoid about everything!!!!

Merlin used to have a blocked salivary gland, but that was more below his chin. I've got a photo of it if you think it's a possibility. Hopefully Mr Vet will put your mind at rest. There are all sorts of non-scary things it could be Kirsty - take a deep breath and keep calm!

Herbie had a histiocytoma at the base of his neck - they're bright red lumps and not malignant, and go away by themselves - but if you've had a lot of fluid drained off, it sounds like some kind of bite or allergy perhaps?
(I know about the paranoia - Herbie has cancer now, and every sneeze and hiccup has me fearing the worst.)

Hard to know without more idea of what the lump looks and feels like and the size. Could it be a cyst? Musky has quite a large cyst on his back which fills up with clear fluid. I have the vet drain it off with a needle from time to time when it gets too big, then it slowly fills up again.
The vet did test some cells from the fluid to be sure there was nothing else going on, but it's completely harmless. We could have it removed, but Musky is an old guy and it's not worth the risk.
Another thought - has she been vaccinated recently and is it near the vaccination site? Molly developed quite a big fluidy lump after vaccination once, but it was completely harmless and disappeared after a couple of weeks.

Sounds like it could be a cist as it was clear fluid that got drained, and the lump back now, hopefully hear back from the vet tomorrow. She quite happy in herself so trying very hard not to worry!!

Frisby had to go to the vets a couple of weeks ago for a lump on his head, he had fluid took from it for testing, the vet said because it was clear fluid he wasn't so worried about it being anything serious and it turned out to be a cyst. Fingers crossed for you for tomorrow

Just got of the phone from the vets, the test didn't show anything abnormal!!! Thinks it might be a hemotoma (OK spelling not good!!) or a big blood blister. So have to moniter it for the next two weeks as it should go down by then. Feeling better than I did! Stu at work and mobile off so can't wait to tell him!!! ;D
