Hi there! Our dogs arrive on tuesday and as we are new to dog owning i just wondered if you have any advice regarding toys. After standing in several local pet shops with confused looks on our faces and becoming more and more overwhelmed with the selection we thought it best to ask the experts! Thank you for your time. Grom xx

When you say your dogs are coming where are they coming from? Kennels, home environment, do they know each other are they use to being around each other and sharing etc? What breed of dogs are they?
To be honest the dogs havent lived together and you dont yet know if they have any resource guarding issues ie toys, food, you, sofa I wouldnt be thinking about buying toys yet. If they are greyhounds alot dont understand or play with toys either and will only play with the ones that squeak thinking they are killing it until the squeak pops and in effect dies. I would take time to get to know the dogs first before you decide how they are around stuff like this what floats there boat and what interests them.

Hi Lisa,
The dogs we are adopting are greyhounds from a greyhound rescue so they are currently in kennels. They are housed together at the kennels and the staff there say they are getting on really well together. They seem happy with each other when we've seen them too.
We have been at the kennels walking them for at least an hour a day, every day and they have been home with us for a morning twice now.
Thanks for the advice regarding toys I think i'll do as you say and wait until they've settled in at home before introducing anything like that.

It is excellent advice. Toy's can be a real problem, my dogs get along really well, but at Christmas we introduced two identical new toys and they immediately caused a problem and were immediately removed. For some reason known only to himself my patterdale decided that he should have them both! The end result was that neither of them had a toy because they became my toys to be played with only when the two dogs are seperate. They'll be no fighting in my house Good luck with your new additions
