On the 2 July 2006 my daughter and I and our little black lurcher Missy travelled to West Wales to meet Chester. He was about 7 months old and Missy 8 months. We took them for a walk, with Chester's lovely foster mum, and they got along fine. Missy showed off by swimming in the river!
We fell for him, of course, and brought him home that hot, sunny sunday. It was a massive journey in the car, as I got lost as usual, but both dogs were very good.
Chess settled in and Missy was only a 'tad' put out. To begin with Chester was VERY protective of his food, snarling at Missy and even growling and nipping at people if they went near him when he had a chew. He also played in a very dominant way when out with Missy. I will never forget one very stressful walk just a few days after he arrived. I was in tears and felt I couldn't cope. I had never had a rescue dog before and felt perhaps I wasn't up to it
However - Lisa was absolutley marvellous and talked me through what was obviously just a settling in period. I have received limitless help and advice from members of this wonderful forum. The knowledge and willingness to share experiences constantly amazes me. Anyone lucky enough to adopt a dog from Gap will never be alone.
Chester (my Chess) has been here 8 months now and I absolutely adore him ;D He truly is my 'heart' dog. Liz asked me a while ago 'is he everything you wanted him to be' - oh YES and so much more ;D
A big thank you to Lisa and Liz for allowing me to be Chester's mum
