Fiddler went missing in fields nr Monyash, owners have leafleted and postered everywhere, and a sighting has just been reported of a hound of his description running about near the George inn, Youlgreave. This is about 5 miles away by road but less across fields.
Wispa and I are meeting owner mid morning tomorrow. We will see if we can get a scent at location of this sighting, if no luck will have to start from scratch at Monyash.

Have spoken to a work colleague who lives in Youlgreave and it would seem that there is a local dog, matching Fiddler's description, that lives 200 yards from the George Inn and regularly escapes Don't want to put a dampner on the search, but thought it useful information. Colleague will keep his eyes open and let me know if he sees any sign of Fiddler. Moira x

Yes, there is indeed a local dog who wanders about near the George, but Jackie has seen him and he is smaller and older and more of a potterer. The one which the witness saw on Sunday was moving like greased lightning. Our thanks to your colleague, another pair of eyes is always useful. Anyway, we met in the George car park, Wispa had a sniff of Fiddler's blanket, matched a scent round the back of the pub and went off at the relentless pace which has seen me lose 2lb a month ever since we started this tracking lark. We proceeded at a jog down the main road to Alport but then the trail headed left on to a footpath which led through fields down to the trail leading by the riverside through Lathkill Dale to Monyash. At one point Wispa took us up the hillside and showed us the remains of a freshly killed bird from which all the meat had been eaten and licked. Then she tracked back down to the path and continued. But instead of taking the official trail, Wispa followed her nose over a narrow stone footbridge by Lathkill Lodge and took a path to the right, still following the river but on the opposite side from the walkers' trail. As that is private land with no right of way, we only followed far enough to see whether Fiddler had gone on into those woods or doubled back ... and he had indeed gone on further. By this time Wispa had come to the limit of her useful tracking time of 2 1/2 hrs, after which she loses concentration and goes a bit silly. Also we did not want to upset the landowner by tracking over this land without permission. So we returned to Lathkill Lodge, as we had met the lady who lives there on the way up. We asked her who owns the land there, and she gave Jackie the numbers for the gamekeeper and told us there is to be a shoot there tomorrow. So Jackie is ringing the keeper and asking if everyone can keep an eye open for Fiddler. We have spoken with many farmers and local people, and everyone is watching out for him. We did meet some people who had seen a very fast black dog cross the road in front of them in Over Haddon village today, so when we got back to the George, Jackie and daughter headed that way to do postering and talk to people. Will update any further news here.

Well, although you didn't find Fiddler today, it does sound like you had quite a constructive day Colleague now has Jackie's number, so can contact her directly if he sees or hears anything - he walks his own dog in the area, so fingers crossed. Come on Fiddler, enough's enough - time to come home now and stop worrying everyone Moira x

We are planning to meet up again on Sat and now have permission to search for Fiddler in the private woods. I don't think he will be there now as today's shoot would have either found him or caused him to move on, but he might come back again.
