I was just about to post this too. We saw the ad in the Ruddington Post office and I've just called the owner to offer our help as we are local. If there are any sightings, please let me know, we will turn out if we can.

It transpires it's the lovely couple I've met quite a lot of times; they are not computer literate and really struggling. I've put her on Dog Lost and am sending them ideas and links etc. Unfortunately I'm trying to get ready to go away, plus work etc, so am not going to get much time to put in. Hopefully Dog Lost can help them (though they are not able to get onto the dog lost site). This is Dog Lost poster for anyone in the Nottinghamshire Leicestershire areas, as it's not too far from the Leicestershire border: please print it, pass it on, etc. The more the better. www.doglost.co.uk/poster.php?dogId=23846(Thanks for moving this - couldn't find this section when I posted, in haste, last evening) Any help would be much appreciated by them. I believe there's some dog event taking place at the Park today so could be worth going down. Also, printing off posters and giving to postman, milkman, binmen, etc. I'm going to try and make up some comps slip size flyers and print off to hand out. I'll go down this afternoon and also the immediate area with these, e.g. Bradmore. Clifton is huge and possibly a bit far away for her to have strayed: she could have been taken in that direction though - I hope not

Thanks will print some posters off at work tomorrow. We are walking our dogs round that way later so will look out. Hope we can find Twiggy. Let us know if anything else transpires or if we can help more. S

So glad she's now on DogLost, and hope she will be back home very soon. If she isn't found soon I will try and head over with a couple of my hounds and spend an hour or so in the park to see if she puts in an appearance. If she was very used to the park and the area she disappeared into it seems strange that she should suddenly decide to take off. Unless of course she is keen and there were rabbits of something about. Jackie x

I was down there yesterday afternoon: there was a dog show on, so I handed out quite a lot of flyers with her photo and details.
Jackie, as I understand it they let her off lead just as they went into the entrance around the back of the park near the railway line crossing (steam train, in occasional use): and she ran off, as she often did, into the wooded area just on the right there. Owners have done their best to search that wooded area. Apparently they did nothing for first couple of days apart from turning up at the park, as they kept thinking she'd come running up to them there. We've met this dog on a number of occasions over the past 2 years, she's friendly and confident. So I think if she's in the park then she's had a tragic accident, e.g. running into a tree or perhaps a sticking out tree branch. But it's a dense copse rather than woodland, so that's perhaps not quite so likely. Otherwise, I'm sure she'd have been seen pretty quickly if coming back out into the open. Or she was having fun, exited out of the park and is either straying, come to a bad end on one of the roads, or she's been taken.
I am so sad about this, and wish I was around to help more, but we're off on hols. This couple are not really able to use their rather old Mac pc for anything much more than basic email: they are struggling online - hence why I have registered her on Dog Lost. Perhaps if someone could email them and offer to do anything needs doing online that would also be of great help: their email's on the Dog Lost poster. They're fairly diffident in approach and perhaps a little naive, tho distraught. They'd put up a few posters, but no picture on the basis that a black greyhound is a black greyhound and everyone would know that, type of thing. Also seem to think the Dog Warden will do checking for them, e.g. with whoever is responsible for dealing with road kill: whereas I think dog wardens are overstretched and may not actually follow that up. Think they're also not quite clear which authority (city or county) deals with such things for their area (nor am I - tho suspsect County - and I've not time to do any checking myself now before I leave). I'm not in the same area, I just visit the park on a weekend quite often. If she was found the day, or next day after she went missing (a week ago today) and taken, then I guess she could be anywhere, though I'd suspect within this broad East Midlands or Midlands area. She's not microchipped so her only ID (apart from racing tattoo) was on her collar.
I've posted her on SOL, SWT, HoundLounge, TRPD, GGLL, DPs and Refuge. If anyone can think of anywhere else useful to post her, and link to Dog Lost poster and details, that would no doubt be helpful too.

Hope she turns up soon - presume they are checking the local pound? I know when we handed a stray in, there had been a report of a similar dog missing, so the dog warden made 1 phone call to them, they didnt answer, he didnt leave a message and took her to the pound, basically saying hed done his bit and they would have to find her in the pound - she wasnt collected and went up for rehoming as she was lucky.
If she went missing a week ago - her time could nearly be up

Agree with everything Chris said. The owner sounds lovely and desperately unhappy, but not particularly clued up about how to find Twiggy. I've supplied them with some posters today for shops etc, in hope of a siting. Also visited park yesterday. Wooded areas are so thick though, I was just peering in. Will do some flyering later. Making me very sad as this is just on my doorstep. Wish I'd known about it sooner.

Sharon which council is it that covers the Ruddington area, and do you know which kennels have the local pound licence? OK, have found the answers to the above so not to worry. Seems if she was picked up she would have been taken to the RSPCA kennels at Radcliffe on Trent. More than a little concerned that it has been a week since she went missing and not a lot done for the first few days. If she has been handed in somewhere she could be running out of time. Jackie x

If the dog had been in an accident, would someone have taken it to a local vets to the park? Might be worth checking with them as well.

I know, wish I'd known sooner, too - the entrance I use at weekends had no poster, and as posters are all on entrances, I never saw one. And have not had an email from her RGT branch either, despite their being notified last week! (my own greyhound came from that branch & I receive newsletters by email, so they have the capability!) I'm so sorry I've not got time due to holiday from tomorrow, work today. If anyone could find out all the places dogs might go to - e.g. East Midlands Dog Rescue could be contacted (they do have an online site, not sure if they take pound dogs too, they have mostly sighthounds). Owners are only checking RSPCA Radcliffe shelter. I gave them Babbington phone number and think they have phoned there. But I'm sure there must be other pounds. No microchip is such a shame: I think owners think the (racing) tattoo is sufficient ID, which of course it's not for most purposes.
If anyone fairly local would like a copy of some flyers I made up - they're really handy for giving people to put in their pockets and distribute over a wider area or put through letterboxes or leave on counters to be picked up: there are 4 to an A4 sheet with basic details of date missing, contact, description AND a photo, then please PM me your email address and I'll send you the Word file: I'll be able to do that for the next couple of days before I'm out of contact.

Chris, are the owners actually visiting the RSPCA kennels at Radcliffe or just phoning? Reason I ask is that I have tried to phone repeatedly for the last hour or so with no joy at all, and I wouldn't rely on the staff contacting me anyway as I think it is too hit and miss. I have heard of cases where a missing dog has been sat in kennels whilst the owner has been told they don't have it. Sadly I don't know the park that well as it isn't local to me, but I have visited on two or three occasions so know where it is, or the main entrance and car park anyway. Can't make it today as I'm having to wait in for the boiler man to show up, but I could have a run over tomorrow for an hour or two and have a meander around if it's any help. I have also posted on White Lodge website and asked for anyone local to keep ears and eyes open. Fingers and everything crossed here that she is still in the area and will show herself soon. Jackie x

Thanks Jackie. I'm fairly doubtful she's actually in the park now (alive, at least) but it would be silly to entirely discount that entirely. Have replied to your PM. Owners have visited Radcliffe RSPCA, and went again on Sunday. I think (hope) they are making regular visits. Is anyone able to contact Kelli (she's on Hound Lounge, I guess she's on her too?) or able to go on Twiggy's entry on Dog Lost -www.doglost.co.uk/dog_blog.php?dogId=23846 and reply to her. I'm at work and can't for the life of me remember my password to log on there (I only joined on Sunday morning so you'd think I'd manage to remember from then!). She wants Twiggy's ear tattoo, and I've just phoned the owner and got it. - scratch that, just found Kelli on here and PM'd her. Twiggy's ear tattoo is JTH9 - one ear only as she is English registered dog.

Have been leafleting today and given the owners some (hopefully) useful advice and phone numbers to try. Would be great to get a sighting, but nothing so far.

On behalf of the local RGT branch after being notified of Twiggy's disappearance on Thursday, we have contacted local RGT branches, main RGT head office, local RSPCA inspectors and advised her owners to contact several dog wardens and rescues such as Babbington etc. We also contacted local greyound trainers kennels in the area and advised them to get a photo so she could go on dog lost. Unfortunately our website administrator is also away so are unable to post it on our main site. The owners have been spoken to over the phone and e mailed! We are doing as much as we can to help with the safe return of Twiggy and appreciate the support and help the family are getting from others.
