A lady in Milton Keynes has just rung...her 7 month old baby has such bad eczema that he's having to live in the bedroom and her dogs are shut in the kitchen. She can't stroke them or anything as if she does, when she next touches the baby, his skin gets badly irritated, cracked and swollen Her doctor says the dogs have to go! So she desperately needs to rehome her 2 dogs asap - either foster or permanent-. She'd like them to go together if poss, but as it's such an emergency, she understands they may have to be parted The dogs are: Clyde: a 5 year old Deerhound x (entire) male. Rough coated, white with brindle ears. OK with other dogs, NOT cat friendly, fine with kids and OK to be left. Very good natured and friendly. Bonnie: a 9 year old Grehound bitch (forgot to ask if she was spayed ) Dark brown in colour. OK with other dogs, NOT cat friendly, fine with kids and OK to be left. Again very good natured and friendly. Bonnie was rescued from a vets where she was due to be pts as a stray. If anyone can help out, please pm me or ring me (01422 240168) asap and I'll put you in touch.

Kaye, can't help with the dogs, but wondered if the lady had heard of or thought of trying Petal Cleanse: www.auravita.com/products/AURA/BLIL10000.aspIt seems to have quite favourable postings on the dog forums and it's not expensive so perhaps worth a try? I appreciate the dogs may still need rehoming but maybe it will lessen the effect in the interim? Also, as an eczema "sufferer" myself (and mine has improved vastly since I was a child) I empathise. I remember when I used to return home to Uni it always took my skin a few days to adjust to the presence of the family dog though - the weeks/months away from home meant my skin needed a period of desensitisation (is that a word?) each time I came back into contact with the dog. Fortunately it was other things for me that made the eczema really bad. Poor lady.

I did mention it actually Ange, and she's tried it, but it's no use for this baby - the eczema is too severe We have been offered a foster hoome for 2 weeks for this pair, which gives us a bit of breathing space

My son had bad infant eczema so I asked an aromatherapist friend (qualified) if he knew of anything to help as I used the steroid cream very sparingly as it causes the skin to thin. He made up a preparation using avocado oil (Waitrose has this for £5 for 250ml) and lots of soothing stuff like chamomile I think. This stuff was brill and helped him no end. Perhaps this poor baby might benefit from something like that? Once my son was 18 ishy months he was very nearly over it, and has nothing like that now. Poor hounds- tragic.
