Hi everyone
I shall start by introducing myself. I am Helen the proud new owner of a wonderful little grey Lurcher? called Albert. I first came across Greyhound gap on a internet search about 3 weeks ago. I had a look through the list of dogs waiting for their forever homes and fell in love with Albert.
That same day i emailed Lisa expressing an interest and had a reply the same day saying a volunteer in the area would give me a call the next day to discuss this.
The volunteer turned out to be Anna the area co-ordinator for the Sheffield region of the couintry.
We had a great chat over the phone in fact Anna made me feel even more determined to home a rescued sight dog. We arranged for Anna to come and visit that same night and i demanded she bring one of her pack to see me hehe!!
Well our home check turned into a hour long visit. We had loads to talk about. It turned out Anna went to college with my boyfriend what a small world!
She checked the garden out and Jesse the Hancock hound gave it his approval with a wee. Anna said we needed a gate and part of the fence reinforced which we said we were planing to do anyway. She suggested we ring Alberts foster home to talk to them and then if we wanted to arrange a visit.
We spoke to the foster family the wonderful Colin and Karen and asked questions and arranged a visit. The visit was fantastic Karen and Colin made us feel really welcome along with all their dogs and it was great to see Albert in a busy family environment.
I knew that we would be able to offer Albert a home and i hoped he would love us as much as we had fallen for him. We arranged to collect him a few days later and in the mean time we mended our fence and fitted a gate.
The day arrived we met up with Karen, Colin and Albert and had a little walk before taking Albert. I had a little cry as we left them, which was silly really as we were the ones keeping him but there you go thats what he did to us.
He has settled in really well and is everything that was described and more. He is so well behaved while writing this i had to go and check he was still in the house. He was doing a bit of sunbathing lol not escaping.
We have had a great experience with gap in fact we are going camping with them all this thursday. They seem to be a very friendly bunch of people who adore dogs.
I hope this helps
All the best
Helen and Albert
