A lady rang me tonight about a Saluki (x?) bitch who's been living rough in the grounds of her local hospital for the last 3 YEARS. She may be one of the Salukis who were lost as the result of a lorry accident in 2001...whatever, this lady's been feeding her and has gradually won her confidence....but not enough to be able to grab hold of her. She'll go into the back of her van and grab some food and run, but if the woman makes a move, the dog's out like a shot The woman's very concerned about her as the place she's meant to be sleeping has threatened to board the shed up, so the dog can't get in there any more and the hospital has told the woman to stop feeding the dog or they'll sack her!!! The dog warden hasn't done much to help, apart from the tell the woman the dog won't respond to food or whistling, when this woman whilstles to the dog and she comes to her straight away for her food every night They said they'd try a cage trap, but no-one's done anything about it.....drugs were mentioned, but again, nowt's been done and this poor woman's at her wits end now Is there anyone in the Bishop's Stortford area who can help this woman to catch this dog? You can crosspost this if you feel you know someone who can help, but tell folk to contact me and I'll pass her number on.

If there's nobody in the area willing/able to help (I'm sure there must be!) although Bishop's Stortford is about 50 miles from me, I would be prepared to help.

Went out to this dog on Tuesday night with the woman who has been feeding her and the temp dog warden Sarah from the ARC - no go , she is fit healthy and is definately not going to be caught easily. They are going to try and trap her next week - but there are loads of foxes in the area she is friendly with and also a cat! Large bitch - lovely looking . Will keep you informed if I hear anything. It sounds a tricky one dunnit Sue? If they try a trap, the lady who's feeding her atm is going to have to not feed her for a few days to get her desperate enough to go into the trap......which is not a nice thing to have to do Anyone discussed darting seriously, rather than "we can't do it in a public place"? I can ask around if anyone could help out if you want?

There are now strict limitations on licences for vets to use dart guns. You will probably have to get hold of an exotics vet. I suggest having a word with wildlife parks etc in the area, maybe even Whipsnade, who might put you in touch with someone. There should be a few vets around in the Home Counties who are licensed. We had major problems getting hold of one in West Wales to knock out a feral puma which was being a nuisance, and by the time we did the animal had cleared off but I am sure you will have better luck in Bishops Stortford.
