I tried my gang on raw food and got exactly the same reaction - they wouldn't look at it! I cooked it and they wouldn't eat that either .... so back to my tried and tested kibble, which they rarely fail to eat. In the past I have tried other brands, but always end up feeding them James Wellbeloved. Yes, it is expensive, but they eat every morcel.

What funny dogs you've got Liz!!!! Ours love home cooked but I just can't bring myself to go raw, its gross. I wouldn't eat raw meat, and the dogs wouldn't eat it eaither, so what's funny about that Vicky? I will never feed raw food, I would not be convinced that there was the right balance of all the various nutrients, vits and mins etc that dogs require, although I imagine the producers have got it down to a fine art now - but that's my opinion and my dog's opinion too! I imagine raw food is easier to feed - all you seem to have to do is just sling them a chicken wing or something and cook the odd vegetable!

I meant funny for not eating the food you cooked not for not eating raw!!! I feel like you re raw. It was odd that they wouldn't eat what I bought as raw, or when it was cooked, but they wouldn't! They looked at me as though I was trying to poison them!

I wouldn't risk feeding raw either but luckily all the dogs we've had have been good eaters of whatever mix of kibble, meat and veg they were given. Only when they become real 'oldies' they have tended to be more picky and sometimes needed a bit more encouragement.

One of mine is a picky eater and at the moment this is what I'm feeding. The base as always is Burns Pork & Potato kibble. I now add a spoonful from a pouch, add water, and mix it up a bit. One pouch (whatever size) lasts a day (2 hounds fed 3 times a day). The pouches I have used are Natures Menu, HiLife, J Wellbeloved. I try and keep the rice content down as it is one of the many things that upset her tum. I have chosen mainly lamb flavour, with some turkey or tuna.
Gizzi always had an upset tum when we got her as well as itchy skin. When I cut out beef, dairy, wheat, etc the itching stopped. Rice and chicken things seem a bit rich for her and so I keep them to a minimum.
As Gizzi is coming up to 8 now I need to change from Burns Pork & Potato as it is not suitable for older dogs. I am looking at James Wellbeloved cereal free lamb flavour senior. I'm already adding a small amount to the Burns for both of them to make sure it suits them.
I also give Fish4Dogs Sea Jerky Whoppers (one a day) as a snack, with a raw turkey neck once a week (Natures Menu). Everything coming out of the back end seems fairly good on this, and the teeth benefit too.

I've just started feeding Alfie, my old boy, James Wellbeloved Lamb & Rice, he's doing really well on it, poo's are very reasonable too . I've found as Alfie has got older he can't tolerate as many different foods, they just upset him. I always use Wainrights or similar trays as well, with the kibble, to make it a bit more interesting. I couldn't do raw, I'd heave

Oh I forgot to say that I used to feed sardines with kibble, but suddenly she went off them and would leave food, also coconut oil - I used to add that and she was OK at first, but now won't touch it. But at the moment the meaty pouches are working - just a small amount with the kibble seems to make it smell v. appetising.
Good luck...

Ours are currently loving various cereal free forthglade trays on their kibble. I'm amazed how they keep eating it and haven't gone off it. Rice just doesn't suit anyone except Bod. Gracie loves sweet potato, butternut squash and squash. It really suits her tummy.

All Four of my Hounds enjoy Naturediet Chicken and Lamb wet food. I also have a bucket of Barking Heads kibble down for them to nibble at if they need something between their two meals. Barking Heads kibble is expensive as it is via Berriewood £43 for a 12 kilo bag, but it is made from 50% pure lamb and no nasty additives, plus is Gluten free as is Naturediet.
