Hello,
just wondered if anyone had experiences with the above. I have a 10 year old greyhound who begun limping on his back leg and stumbling a lot. He has been diagnosed with the above and now on various painkillers. Would love to hear from anyone else as vet says this is common in greyhounds thank you

I am really sorry to hear your greyhound has Cauda Equina. It is an extremely painful condition and to my knowledge if surgery is not an option it could lead to further paralysation, incontinence and possible neurological damage to say nothing of the excruciating pain. My Sal had just about every test going and was treated with a very strong cocktail of antibiotics in case the cause was an infection, they then thought the cause may be a spinal cord tumour pressing on the nerves. We were not given the option of surgery because of where the possible tumour was but she was also 10 years old and the post operative prognosis isn't great either so we probably would not have put her through it. It became apparent very quickly she could not bare the pain , her quality of life was awful and it was an easy decision to let her go in the end I'm sorry to sound so pessimistic and I really do hope in your case it is an infection and the antibiotics work. My heart goes out to you both Maryxx
