Hi Molly (6year old ex racer) has recently had a few occasions where she has really cried/yelped and then limped as if her front leg hurts (unusual as she is crazily stoic). She also licks that leg a lot. I've had a poke around and she doesn't seem sore and also she is fine on walks etc. she's having her yearly dental soon and I thought I would ask the vet for advice. Anyone had a similar experience??

Could be a touch of arthritis or even pins and needles? I'd ask the vet to have a look if it continues

Might be a touch of cramp. Try gentle 'massaging' from her neck, around her shoulder and top of leg. We had one with similar sounding problem and we found gentle circular massage helped.

Try Synoquin. If Molly is insured most Pet Insurers will cover the costs. If not then you can buy it online cheaper than at any vets. I have this from my vets along with Metacam from my vets and PetPlan pays for it. This is because Mickey has arthritis in his right legs and loose hips. Although normally I only give him the Synoquin and not the Metacam. It comes in Tablet and capsule form, the capsules can be easierly opened to spread the contents on his food.

Best to get a vets advice x
If it is arthritis or similar are you on Facebook? There is a group called TUG (Turmeric user Group) it's a very helpful group and you'll read the benefits of turmeric for arthritis x

Hopefully it's nothing but I would definitely see the vet just in case it's something nasty - better to get it checked out sooner than later. Hope it's nothing x
Does she have a dental every year? are her teeth poor?

If you are worried and it has happened more than once I would get a vet to check her over just in case.
It is probably an old racing injury and nothing to worry about.
Hope she is feeling better soon.

I agree it could be an old racing injury, but, that is something that i was really mega watchful of with my greyhound girlie, knowing that they are prone to osteosarcoma . Some months back my girl developed a limp ( but, no crying out or anything ), so i checked it to see if it was painful , or, if there was a lump..........there was neither . I wasnt happy, so took her to see my vets, he checked her all over , and, again, no pain, or lump, but, knowing that osteosarcoma has been on the increase, he had her in that day for an xray. Against all odds , and sadly, it showed that she did in deed have bone cancer, which was confirmed osteosarcoma , when the biopsy of the leg was done . The following day , she had her leg off , and, has been undergoing chemo ........her last one being this Thursday . Because Ben still " couldnt " feel anything on her leg at all, he did, re do another xray on the day she had her leg off ( which we wernt charged for) , just to re confirm the leg it was in. All I can say is Thank God I took it seriously, and, so did my vet ...........and, all I can hope for now is that she becomes an overcomer in this, as other Gap hounds have, when caught early enough . Truthfully i wouldnt mess around with your little girl, and, for the cost of just an xray, this nasty can completely be ruled out, and then, you could go down whatever avenue you feel would be the best for your little girl , in regards to medication for arthritis , if that is what she has got, and, with all my heart I pray that that, is just what she has got . We had Perry straight to the vets when his back legs seemed painful.Keep saying I hate the fact that our vet is the local track vet,but he does know greys and always listens to our worries. He was the 1 who recommended homeopathy for our Saluki x's pining. At the moment he thinks Perry has arthritis, short course of Metacam sorted it.But like all of us,he knows how you worry about the dreaded C word. And he has encouraged the junior vets to be interested in sighthounds.Lady vet who gave Perry his fetching yellow bandage was Kiz's favourite,so glad she was the 1 who treated Kiz when we had to let her go.Mollie means so much to you - get her checked,it's worth it.Cath

Thanks everyone! She seems fine now but going to the vet anyway. She has a dental ever year so that her teeth are covered by the pet insurance. She has smashing nashers!
