I haven't tried it myself but do know lots of people that have and they seem to think it's made a difference to their dogs that have had arthritis. I've never heard anything bad about it so it's probably worth a go for a few months to see what you think.

I use it to make Mayo's Golden Paste - a recipe for turmeric to help with arthritis. I got a jar from an Asian Supermarket, so it was relatively inexpensive. Not sure exactly how much good it does, but it's certainly not doing him any harm Moira x

Just hijacking your thread a bit here Alex Tessie is a bit arthritic so I'm interested to see these replies as I hadn't heard of this before. Might be worth a go? Have you shopped around to see where's best to buy it? Xx

I use it to make Mayo's Golden Paste - a recipe for turmeric to help with arthritis. I got a jar from an Asian Supermarket, so it was relatively inexpensive. Not sure exactly how much good it does, but it's certainly not doing him any harm Moira x Do you still make the paste? X Yes I do. Here's the recipe I use, as taken from the Turmeric Users Group on FB. Please check for any contraindications for taking turmeric if it's to be used with other medications and/or existing medical conditions - I can't feed it to Daisy as she's on anti platelet drugs which reduce her clotting ability and turmeric can act in a similar way. GOLDEN PASTE 1/2 cup turmeric powder (125 mls) 1 cup water (250 mls), and 1 cup in reserve if needed 1/3 cup (70 mls) cold pressed Olive or Coconut oil 1 1/2 teaspoons fresh ground black pepper (one and a half) Place turmeric and water in pan, stirring over gentle heat until you have a thick paste. This should take about 7 - 10 minutes and you may need to add additional water along the way. Add the pepper and oil at the end of cooking. Stir in well (a whisk is ideal) and allow to cool. Store in sterilised glass jar and refrigerate. Will keep for up to four weeks, refrigerated - best used within two. This makes just over a standard jam jar full. I usually put a jar in the oven to sterilise while I make the paste. If the paste and jar are still warm when I bottle it up, it makes a good seal that "pops" when it's opened again Prior to making the paste, I simply added turmeric, pepper and salmon oil to Mayo's food, but the paste is giving him more relief. I dissolve it in a bit of hot water before pouring over his biscuits and it's all wolfed down. Moira x

I just bought a jar of cold pressed organic coconut oil from tesco. Apparently organic really is worth getting. It goes a long way and a friend swears by it for her babys nappy rash!

Meant to say, make sure it's food grade coconut oil as it's also sold as a beauty product.

What quantity do you give him Moira? What weight is he xxx Alex, from this thread and Helens on manuka honey I've just been down to Holland and Barrett and got the honey and the coconut oil in their penny sale which is on at the moment. I got a fair sized jar of the food grade coconut oil for £15 and paid a penny for the grade 12 manuka honey. I'm going to try them on Tess for her arthritis and poorly paws but the guy said the oil is great for your skin and hair xx

As a slight aside we cook with coconut oil sometimes. We but it online or from an Asian supermarket.

Interested in how much to give Cee xxx I'm not sure yet, I was going to start with maybe a teaspoon mixed in with her food once a day? On the plus side, even if it doesn't work she'll have a lovely glossy coat!
