Now the weather is getting a bit chilly the fleecy coats are coming out. As he may be staykng for a while longer, need to get Ringo a proper fitting coat. He is approx 30 inch neck to base of tail. My 2 have blizzard coats and obviously the 28 is a to short but also extremely "snug" in the chest. Sorry if this seems abit of a daft question but can anyone tell me if going up in length increases the chest size? He is a very burly lad! Thanks Helen

I would always get one a bit bigger than necessary if I wasn't sure to make sure everything covered up. Plenty of greyhound people use Blizzard coats though. If he is chunky do you mean he isn't a greyhound? If so a normal dog coat should do it. I've spent £££'s getting the right coat for mine. Now I've settled on a combination of Equafleece and Voyager K9 (USA).

]he is a greyhound just well built just didn't know if longer length = bigger chest in hound coats? It know it does for Equafleece. For each two inches gained in back length, two inches are gained in chest depth and underneath too. Beans is too long for the size that fits him in the chest/body and the next size up was way too baggy so they made him up a special one. Not so sure about the Blizzard coats though, but it would make sense if they did. Tracy (traceywacey) has Gap's Blizzard coat stock so she might be able to measure the sizes she has to see where they differ between sizes. Or drop them a message via their website.

I have being trying to get a 32" Red Blizzard coat for my rather large female Greyhound Kelly. A 30" will not fit around her belly area. I am surprised that Gap does not stock 32" Blizzard coats as all three of my Greyhounds need the 32" size. Last year I managed to get three 32" Blizzard coats via Hersham Hounds, two were black ones which Merlin and Kelly wear and one is blue which Mickey-Finn wears. Merlin weighs in at 35 kilos, Mickey-Finn at 37 kilos and Kelly at 38 Kilos. Kelly was the biggest pup in her litter, she was bigger than her two brothers whilst her two sisters are around 26 Kilos. They were quite surprised when Kelly was born due to her size, but she is a very gentle giant who loves food. They tried to get her to what they considered her correct female weight but she refused to race for them, so eventually they gave in and found she started racing and winning for them. The only problem being because they did not give her what she considered her proper food portions as a pup, she is a gannet as food is concerned. I have been asked if she is a Lurcher (Bull/Greyhound) and people are very surprised when I say Kelly is a pure bred Greyhound with a pedigree to prove it.

We can get coats in size 32 but only in Black and as a special order. I did put a note on here and face book stating that I was putting in an order and could order coats that we do not normally stock for anybody that wanted to order one.

Hi, not sure if this is the right thread but looking for some general advice about clothing for our new greyhound. I'm beginning to think he might be getting cold at night, our heating is set to 16/17 degrees overnight. Do most hounds need something extra? (he sleeps on a blanket on the sofa). What about around the house during the day? We already have a very hairy spaniel who never feels the cold so this is all new territory for us. We have a fleece blanket and a waterproof coat for walks but it's at home i'm wondering about. He is 4yrs old, tall and broad but lean and his fur is quite thin in places. Any advice would be very welcome, thanks ?

Hi Emily, all my greyhounds and lurchers (smooth coat not rough) wear pj's at night, I can always tell when its turning colder as they are restless but as soon as they have their pyjamas on they settle much better. One of mine just has a fleece coat as he doesn't like his legs been lifted into the legs . The others all have these styles, these don't have legs in, just holes for their legs to go through, the bitches have little legs in the front but the back legs are free. This is Trevor in his The gang waiting for bedtime treats

Bod has a jumper with leg holes at the front but not at the back once it gets cold at night but the girls hate wearing anything at night even though I think they feel the cold so I put warm blanket in all the beds and another one over them. Obviously they move and it comes off so if I get up I do a bed check If it's very cold I pop an oil filled radiator on low on the landing as they all sleep upstairs and it just takes the chill off. I wish they'd wear their pj's, they get used as regular coats for walks instead.
