Busy few days so very little time to update progress on the hound from the pound.
He is settling in really well and spends his evenings after a good walk throwing squeaky toys around the lounge and playing. He sleeps all night with alternate visits to the sofa or his comfy basket which he insists is placed right beneath the television in order that he is the centre of attention. He's eating well and spotless in the house.
The biggest concern is his back legs - if he does any sort of running his back legs appear to cramp or give him issues and he literally just sits down until what ever troubles him goes. For a couple of minutes after he has run his walk becomes ragged and he limps but he seems to then recover and trots on normally.
This clearly requires investigation though as he is bursting with energy but when he try's to have a sprint he simply stops and sits down or holds his leg as if he has a thorn in his paw but once back on the lead he will trot with you and is then clearly not in any discomfort. Strange one.
He is certainly not feeling any pain or discomfort unless he extends himself running. His running action is very 'loose' with his back legs almost barreling out. He will stay on a lead now until we discover what the issue is.
Oh.......the hound from the pound.........he's called Zaba.
Long story and he is starting to learn his new name slowly.

Hey so pleased to hear that Zaba is settling in well and you are sounding so positive. The back legs do sound a bit strange,I am sure that you will get to the bottom of what appears to be troubling him. Great to see your update and we are all watching for future ones, have a nice weekend with your boy. Shazx

Wonderful to know you are keeping him and Zaba sounds like he is settling in well. As for the leg issues, he may be getting cramp muscle spasms. My Greyhound Herbie had a lot of cramp at first when we got him. He used to go into spasm on walks and would sit/stand and scream still we gave it the 'magic rub' and then he would settle and walk normally again. But it may be a good idea to get it checked by a vet to rule out other things. He may have an old injury that is flaring up. Its hard to say because you dont know all his background and it may simply be a case of him getting used to regular exercise again, so he will feel it for a while. With Herbie he soon settled down once he had got use to our exercise regime and hardly ever had cramp again. You said Zaba has a loose style, is he actually frog leaping/bunny hopping? Herbie did this and it did look hilarious and never held him back any, but one physio vet did suggest to me that this particular style of running may have been as a result of an old injury. But as said do get it checked over and keep us updated.

I too would get Zaba checked out by the vet - at least then you could put your mind at rest about it. Hopefully it will be something that will sort itself out in time.

Love his name! Never heard that one before.....does it have some meaning for you or is it just 'made up'? Either way it's lovely to hear how well he is settling and I hope you get to the bottom of his mobility problems very quickly.

A lovely story ... good for you As for his back legs well I swear by chiropractors (tho I'm very lucky cos my vet is also a chiropractor) so maybe a trip to a McTimoney chiro would also help? Keep the updates coming - I find it helps mine to leave a worn teeshirt in their bed too:) J xx

Broadband issues have prevented any 'Hound from the Pound' updates for over 3 weeks but all is good now so a full update will follow tomorrow if anybody is still interested ! Much to report but little time tonight. At the moment the HFTP is stretched out at my feet snoozing.........
We are good friends, we are learning more about each other every day.
I'm glad I brought him home.
Night all x
PS Thank you all.
You all helped save the HFTP as much as me through your posts when I was struggling with how I could make it work for him. Thank you.
