Axel is 8 next month and about a week ago we noticed he's occasionally limping on his front leg. He doesn't seem in pain and it's worst after he's just got up, it seems to improve as he moves around. Does that sound like age/racing related arthritis? If it keeps going we'll take him to the vets, but as he's not seeming to be in pain I'm assuming it's not urgent? He had a good run yesterday and afterwards seemed fine.

Its sounds like it could be arthritis, the clinical signs of being stiff in the morning and improving on exercise are classic. But do take him to the vets to be checked out. If his limp gets worse , ie is all the time , and doesnt improve with medication ,then do insist on an xray. I am sure you are already aware that the development of osteosarcoma is highest between the ages of 8 to 11. But dont worry yet, it does sound like arthritis, but get him checked as the vet can give him meds to make him more comfortable.

fingers crossed it's just arthritis and nothing nasty but I'd get it checked out anyway to put your mind at rest. Lots of good thoughts for your boy and let us know how he gets on.
Love Sian xx

I can see the beginnings of arthritis in Noel too, I popped him along to the vets but he's been okay again since the warmer weather came. I hear that turmeric can do wonders for arthritis especially in mild cases where you don't yet need to opt for medication.
I would pop him in the vets just to make sure the vet can't feel an underlying problem and they can see how he reacts to pressure points etc. and look at how he moves generally. I spect it is athritus though x

Thanks guys, I'll head him off to the vets shortly then and hopefully it's nothing serious It's just a sad sign that he's getting on a bit
