Poor Teddy had to go to the vets today, he's been licking his bum so much it's mega swollen and red raw. It looks so painful, and obviously because it hurts he's just licking it to death. As of last time he's off the burns food entirely. I cooked him a dinner of plain boiled chicken, plain white rice, new potatoes, carrots and peas. He had the same this morning, and this evening the same again mixed in with a cup of james well beloved.
The vet's given him a steroid injection, and also prescribed a course of probiotics to help his gut flora. Good news is he was very well behaved at the vets despite not feeling himself, currently flopped out dreaming away with his eyes open, and no more farts today!!
On the menu for tomorrow, is plain steak and veg.

There are powdered pre/probiotics you can get to add to their food called Bionic Biotics which are supposed to be good. Many people use live yoghurt but I think you would probably have to use quite a lot for it to be effective. White fish and potato is good for poorly tummies as well. Hope he feels better x

Well, pleased to report that as of yesterday we now have solid poo It's a much better colour, back to dark brown and much more solid. Tuesday his poo was still soft and light brown, but it's getting steadily better. He's had his last dose of the canikur (probiotic) today, and at the moment he's on fresh cooked meat, veg, and we're starting to reintroduce his KWB kibble back in too. The vet weighed him, and said he was 25kg, when we last had him weighed he was 28.5kg. I knew he'd lost weight but no way was I expecting nearly 4kg . I want to build him back up gradually, hence feeding him carbs and meat on top of his kibble. His bum seems less sore, he's definitely licking it less, and when he's completely back to normal we'll give him a bath as he's stained a lot of his fur and skin round his bum where he's been licking it so much. So far he has a big orangey/pink patch of what should be white fur near his bum. Vet said it's just staining, not his skin underneath, and tbh I think his anal glands are probably ok. His bum is looking a lot less swollen now and vet didn't say anything about his glands, but said if he's not better by tomorrow to take him back. Vet also explained part of the reason he was having a poo and then still straining and walking around afterwards is because he's so swollen it's making him think there's still more in there to come out, poor chap. As I said, now he's doing solid poos he's stopped walking into the house still straining and generally seems much better. He got his big squeaky snake on the bed at 8am this morning and was playing with that, and we both realised it's been AGES since we last heard him playing with them rather than just carrying them about. He's also stopped trying to eat every single piece of grass he finds as well, so can only think that his previous food didn't have enough fibre / veggie matter in, which is another reason I'm offering lots of veg to him at the moment. He still tries the odd piece, but generally it's improving. Main reason I don't want him eating it is I have no idea what's been on it, ie - other dogs wee/poo, and also, I'm paranoid about him eating a slug and contracting lungworm or something nasty. He's currently snuggling up with me after having lamb and veg which has been in the slow cooker all day. The other thing I forgot to mention is that one morning this week, I came down to find during the night that he'd vommed twice on the carpet. Was defo vom as was bright fluoro yellow and in the middle of the carpet, if he were going to wee he would be doing it up the sofa / cocking his leg up something. He's done it a few times before, I think when his tummy has gotten too empty and then the acid upsets him. Since cooking him food and giving him a little snack before bedtime we've not had any more sick. One other thing, he smells different! Lol. His ears smell less 'dog'!! Don't get me wrong, I don't chase him round the house sniffing his ears lol, but you know what it's like, they're cuddled up with you and and you get a waft of dog smell. Hoping that in the next few weeks we'll see an improvement with his fur falling out, and also that his bum will continue to improve. Samples from CSJ have come through, so we will see what he thinks to those soon. He was pushing the box around the front room trying to get it open so it must smell good Thanks for all your help and input everyone!!

It sounds really awful - for you all. Hope he continues to improve and you find the food that suits him. Sounds like something in his food must really disagree with him to set him off so bad. Lots of good wishes for him

The yellow vomit sounds like bile. Sometimes my lurcher gets this in the mornings, I give a biscuit before bedtime as I feed around 4pm and that usually helps I think its to do with the length of time their stomach digests their food, it being empty by the morning. I don't feed until about an hour after exercise because of bloat so I give a biscuit when I get up just to take the edge off.Good to hear he is improving.
