Does anyone have experience of epilepsy in lurchers.
My friend has a 22 month rough Hancock lurcher 3/8 collie (beardie and border)5/8 greyhound.
I see a lot of him as Lupin and him are very good playmates (actually she knocks him about , steals his ball and generally leads him a merry dance). I actually witnessed his first 2 fits although we did not fully recognize them as fits at the time.
The first was at about 11 months old and he seemed to get wobbly on his back legs and then lay down and did not want to get up for a few minutes. When he got up he was a bit subdued for for a short while but then back to normal. The second time a few months later again his back legs went and he struggled a few strides before collapsing. I thought he had badly injured his back but noticed from his eyes he was not quite with it.He has had 2 fits since.Once at home and again out on a walk. He seems to recover fairly quickly and with no real after effects. He has been to the Vet who has done tests which included bloods and found nothing out of the ordinary so concludes that it is probably Epilepsy. His owner is to keep a diary of any fits and record the circumstances surrounding them.It seems that if the frequency is around 6 months or more then nothing should be done but if more frequent then medication needs to be considered.
In retrospect this does seen to be a pretty classic Epilepsy in that it first appeared in early adulthood but I wondered if any of you had any experience that sheds any more light on the situation or how this may progress.
Any info I can get would be really helpful and do feel free to put me right if I am talking rubbish or jumping to conclusions.
Thanks
James
